Families relax and enjoy the New Year holiday at Phra Prong Reservoir in Sa Kaeo province after border conditions eased, allowing residents to return to normal life following weeks in evacuation shelters.

SA KAEO, Thailand – The situation along the Sa Kaeo border has eased, allowing residents who spent more than 20 days in evacuation shelters to return to normal activities and enjoy New Year outings with their families. The improvement in conditions has brought a calmer atmosphere to communities across the province as 2026 begins.

Many evacuees used the holiday period to visit relatives, dine outside, and take short trips after weeks of displacement. Some families traveled to Phra Prong Reservoir in Watthana Nakhon district to rest and relieve stress from their time in evacuation centers.

During the evacuation, households faced ongoing concerns over children’s education, employment, daily expenses, and uncertainty surrounding the border situation. These challenges led families to live cautiously while waiting for clearer security conditions.

As travel resumed, relatives visiting from other provinces expressed confidence in Sa Kaeo’s safety and the security measures in place. Several families said they planned to resume regular holiday visits, helping restore familiar family routines.

Tourist attractions across the area also showed signs of revival. At Phra Prong Reservoir, residents and visitors gathered to swim, enjoy meals, and relax by the lakeside. Pleasant weather and improved conditions contributed to a lively holiday mood, signaling a gradual return to normal life in the border communities. (NNT)
