BANGKOK, Thailand – The Cabinet has acknowledged a measure to waive expressway tolls during the New Year holiday period, granting free travel on the Burapha Withi Expressway and the Kanchanaphisek Expressway on the Bang Phli–Suksawat section. The toll exemption will be in effect for seven days, from Dec. 30, 2025, through Jan. 5, 2026.
Deputy Government Spokesperson Ayrin Phanrit said the Cabinet recognized the toll waiver in line with the Ministry of Transport’s announcement on expressway toll rates for the 2026 New Year holiday. The measure applies to routes under the Expressway Authority of Thailand’s supervision.
Traffic volume during the toll-free period is projected at about 2.38 million vehicles. As a result, the Expressway Authority of Thailand is expected to forgo approximately 87.2 million baht in revenue.
Despite the revenue loss, the toll exemption is expected to deliver economic benefits estimated at 136.7 million baht. These include savings in vehicle operating costs and travel time, as authorities aim to support smoother travel, ease congestion, and reduce travel expenses during the holiday period. (NNT)
