A massive holiday travel push: Free tolls, more trains and buses, extended operating hours, volunteer checkpoints, and strict safety inspections roll out nationwide under Thailand’s “H.N.Y. 2569 – Happiness of All, Network of Care, Year of Safety” campaign.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn has announced the Ministry of Transport’s New Year 2026 gift package under the theme “H.N.Y. 2569 – Happiness of All, Network of Care, Year of Safety.” The campaign introduces nationwide measures to reduce travel costs, increase public transport options, and improve safety during the holiday season.

Under “Happiness of All,” tolls will be waived on key expressways and motorways, additional train services will run on main routes, and fare discounts will be offered on interprovincial buses and flights. Public transport hours will be extended for metro lines, buses, and the Airport Rail Link, while free parking and small gifts will be available at airports and select terminals. Special campaigns include a free electric boat river cruise and discounted airline tickets on major routes.

The “Network of Care” section focuses on assistance and access. More than 150 vocational volunteer centers will be set up nationwide, along with public transport safety checkpoints. Government agencies are expanding mobile apps to help travelers report issues, check routes, and plan trips more easily. Support services such as rest areas, roadside aid, and emergency hotlines will remain active throughout the New Year period.

As part of the “Year of Safety,” authorities are conducting vehicle checks and road safety inspections, particularly on high-traffic routes. Drivers of public transport and heavy vehicles are subject to stricter oversight, while infrastructure agencies are patrolling risk-prone areas and deploying temporary signage, lighting, and safety equipment. Free safety checks are also available for personal vehicles at select facilities. (NNT)
