DBD Director-General Poonpong Naipanagorn says the September surge in new company registrations reflects growing entrepreneur confidence amid ongoing government economic stimulus measures.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand saw a boost in new business activity in September 2025, with 8,156 companies registered—a 3.67% increase from the previous month—reflecting growing confidence among entrepreneurs amid continued government economic stimulus measures. Despite this uptick, total new registrations for the first nine months of 2025 fell 3.36% to 67,345 companies.

The Commerce Ministry reported that registered capital for new businesses in September totaled 19.87 billion baht, down 9.89% from the previous month, while cumulative registered capital for the nine-month period reached 214.21 billion baht, up 2.75%. Meanwhile, business closures fell to 2,150 in September, a 4.61% decrease, with registered capital for dissolved companies plummeting 66.55% to 5.56 billion baht. Over the nine-month period, 11,879 businesses closed, down 3%, with capital reductions of 40.87%. The ratio of new registrations to closures averaged 6 to 1, consistent with the five-year trend.

Department of Business Development (DBD) Director-General Poonpong Naipanagorn noted that business formation typically peaks early in the year, slows in the second quarter, rises again in the third, and declines in the fourth quarter as entrepreneurs avoid year-end accounting burdens. Conversely, many closures occur at year-end to finalize financial accounts.

As of September 30, 2025, Thailand had 2,032,174 registered juristic persons, with a total registered capital of 31.28 trillion baht. Of these, 976,857 remain active, holding combined capital of 22.94 trillion baht. Limited companies make up 79.26% of active entities, partnerships account for 20.59%, and public limited companies 0.15%.

Service-oriented businesses remain the largest group of registrants with 530,171 entities (13.28 trillion baht in capital), followed by wholesale and retail trade at 319,843 entities (2.61 trillion baht), and manufacturing with 126,843 entities (7.05 trillion baht), representing 54.27%, 32.74%, and 12.99% of active businesses, respectively.
