BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has announced the cabinet’s approval of its draft policy statement, which will be delivered to Parliament between September 28th and 30th. Speaking after a special cabinet meeting on Wednesday night, the Prime Minister said the policy focuses on four key pillars to address the nation’s urgent problems.
The economic policy aims to reduce the cost of living through the “Kon La Krueng” co-payment scheme and lower transport and energy costs. On national security, the government will use both diplomatic and military measures to resolve the border dispute with Cambodia. The policy also includes streamlining disaster relief and launching a major crackdown on social threats such as drug trafficking, illegal gambling, and online scam networks. The Prime Minister emphatically stated that the government will not support any form of gambling business or legalize online gambling.
On the political front, the government will hold a referendum on amending the constitution on the same day as the next general election. The Prime Minister intends to dissolve parliament within four months of the policy statement, targeting an election by March or April 2026.
Finally, Prime Minister Anutin stressed a new work ethic for his cabinet, stating that all ministries will be required to reduce red tape and that ministers must be prepared to work seven days a week to solve the nation’s problems, which “cannot wait”. (NNT)
