Thai 2nd Army commander Lt. Gen. Boonsin Padklang admits Cambodian troop movements and rocket deployments are “provocations,” but says the border remains under control during Thailand’s military command transition.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Lieutenant General Boonsin Padklang, Commander of the 2nd Army Region, acknowledged reports of Cambodian troop and weapons movements along the border, including BM-21 rocket launchers, describing them as a potential warning sign during Thailand’s military command handover.

He admitted the activity violated ceasefire agreements and amounted to “disturbance” ahead of the official transfer of his command, but insisted the situation remained under control. The incoming 2nd Army commander, he said, was already familiar with operations and prepared to ensure continuity.

Lt. Gen. Boonsin emphasized that while Cambodia’s actions were provocative, Thailand must continue to exercise restraint, uphold the ceasefire, and handle incidents with caution to avoid unnecessary escalation. Any immediate skirmishes, however, could be met with full military authority.

He also appealed to the public not to post or share images of military equipment or positions on social media, warning that such actions could compromise national security.

As he nears retirement, Lt. Gen. Boonsin reassured that the Thai Army remained committed to protecting sovereignty and stability, stressing that any serious military response would require careful consideration and approval through the National Security Council. (TNA)
