BANGKOK, Thailand – The Korean Cultural Center in Thailand, in collaboration with the Korean Film Archive, has opened the exhibition Production Design: Scene Architects Build On-Screen Worlds, running from 1 July to 26 September 2025.

The opening ceremony drew around 50 guests, including prominent figures from Thailand’s cultural and creative sectors. Attendees represented organizations such as the Ministry of Culture, the Thailand Creative Culture Agency (THACCA), Thai Media Fund, Bangkok Art and Culture Center, the Japan Foundation, and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand.

The exhibition highlights the artistry of some of Korea’s leading production designers. Featured works include scenes from Decision to Leave and The Handmaiden by Ryu Sung-hee, winner of the Vulcan Prize at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival; Hansan: Rising Dragon by Cho Hwa-sung; and Kill Boksoon and Kingmaker by Han Ah-reum. A wide array of creative elements is on display, including storyboards, concept art, set plans, and graphic designs, alongside 3D visualizations and film clips that bring these cinematic worlds to life.

In her opening remarks, Ms. Lee Sunju, Director of the Korean Cultural Center, emphasized the role of production design in the global appeal of Korean cinema. She noted that the realistic and artistic quality of on-screen environments plays a crucial role in delivering a film’s message and strengthening Korea’s soft power. She expressed hope that the exhibition would support further development in the film industries of both Korea and Thailand, while fostering deeper cultural exchange.

Ms. Lee also announced a special event scheduled for 18 July: a “Special Talk with the Director” featuring Ryu Sung-hee, the acclaimed production designer behind Netflix’s When Life Gives You Tangerines. The talk will welcome participants from Thailand’s film industry, students, and film enthusiasts. Ms. Lee encouraged all cinema lovers not to miss the opportunity.

The exhibition is open to the public on weekdays from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM and is located on the first and second floors of the Korean Cultural Center’s gallery in Bangkok. (NNT)
