Former village chief shoots nephew and nephew’s wife dead over fence dispute

SAMUT PRAKAN, Thailand – A 73-year-old former village chief fatally shot his 55-year-old nephew and the nephew’s wife following a heated argument over a metal sheet fence being attached to his property wall. The tragic incident occurred in Soi Boonthanom, Samrong Tai Subdistrict, Phra Pradaeng District, Samut Prakan Province.

Police responding to the scene found the bodies of Amnat, 55, and his wife Mrs. Surinthorn, lying on the ground floor of their two-story home. Both had been shot multiple times. Investigators also discovered seven spent bullet casings nearby. The alleged shooter was identified as Manit, 73, a former village head and the uncle of the deceased. His home is located adjacent to the victims’.



According to the investigation, the deceased couple had hired a contractor to install a metal sheet fence. Unaware of ongoing disputes between the two households, the contractor inadvertently drilled into the wall of Manit’s home, prompting his anger. An intense verbal confrontation ensued, leading to Manit drawing a firearm and shooting both victims. He also fired a shot at the couple’s child, who narrowly escaped injury.

Following the shooting, Manit’s wife managed to wrestle the gun away from him. He then fled the scene in a sedan. Police are currently searching for the suspect.
