Thailand logged seven new patients of the coronavirus disease 2019 who arrived from other countries and were quarantined.
The Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration reported that the new cases consisted of three each from Saudi Arabia and India and one from Russia.
The total COVID-19 cases rose to 3,461, 3,312 of whom recovered and 91 others were at hospitals. The death toll remained unchanged at 58.
Meanwhile, Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said Thailand was developing a COVID-19 vaccine and following up progress of similar tasks in other countries.
Although Astra Zeneca Co and the University of Oxford suspended their COVID-19 vaccine trial due to some problem, Mr Anutin said he hoped that the problem would be solved soon.
He believed that Thailand would be among the first countries to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.
Astra Zeneca on Tuesday suspended the Phase 3 trial of their experimental COVID-19 vaccine it is developing with Oxford University after a person participating in one of the company’s studies got sick.
Mr Anutin urged people to protect themselves by wearing face masks and washing hands, saying recent surveys showed that people did not wash their hands as frequently as they had done.
He also said that even if local COVID-19 infection recurred, the government would not impose a nationwide lockdown but would implement local lockdown measures to protect the economy. (TNA)
