PEA plans tangled-wire
cleanup by month’s end
Phasakorn Channgam
The Provincial Electrical Authority will launch its largest cleanup of
tangled wires throughout Pattaya at month’s end.
Councilman
Banlue Kullavanijaya addresses a meeting with officials about cleaning up
tangled wires throughout Pattaya.
PEA Banglamung office assistant manager Narong Theerakamjai met with
Councilman Banlue Kullavanijaya, the city’s longtime proponent to clean up
the messy-wires issue, Aug. 29 to discuss progress on the cleanup, which
began July 30.
Narong said there have been many complaints to the PEA as well as the
National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission about utility
workers’ usual practice of filling power poles with new cables while
ignoring dead lines until wires droop, drop and block city views. He
admitted the cleanup only came after NBTC ordered the utility to clean up
the mess.
PEA in March mapped out a wire-cleanup in 12 regions around the country. In
Chonburi, Chantaburi, Rayong, Chachoengsao and Trat a total 18.1 km. of
wires will be trimmed.
In Pattaya, work is being carried out on the left side of Thepprasit Road
from Sukhumvit Road to Soi Kophai; around Soi Chaiyapruek 2 from Sukhumvit
to Naeramit Village; and from Soi Chaiyapruek 1 between Sukhumvit to the
Pattaya city border.
Narong directed telephone and cable-television operators to inspect poles in
those area and either remove lines installed illegally or color-code working
lines before Sept. 30. After that, any unclaimed lines will be removed, he
said.
