Solutions should be sensible
Editor;
Re: Don’t complain unless you offer solutions (Mailbag,
Friday, 10 August 2012). It’s a shame that your boss didn’t give you the
caveat that these solutions should be sensible. Firstly there aren’t the
resources to monitor the parking in these areas and bus stops would be as
much use as the traffic lights. Second you are suggesting ripping up the
entire sidewalk on Beach Road - well I can see that going well considering
how long it took the council to do Thepprasit Road. Finally, you want to
remove people’s income for 3 months and then take their jet skis without any
proof. I feel that your ideas may need a bit of fine tuning.

We old codgers shouldn’t be tempted
Editor;
Re; Old men behaving badly! (Hillary, Friday, 10 August
2012). LOL, I think Ginger the winger must be a young guy, who thinks that
we old codgers shouldn’t be tempted anymore by a young beauty. Maybe Ginger
lost someone he fancies to an older guy and his young ego has been bruised.
Ah, thank God for Pattaya where us old codgers can snatch a young honey out
of the hands of some up-himself young male, even if it’s only the bulge in
our wallets that attracts the girl. Ginger you too will be and old duffer
one day and if it’s your choice to walk arm in arm with a lady of your own
age then I wish you well, but I somehow think that when you’re old and grey,
to young (women) you’ll stray. To partake of a treat, that’s beautifully
sweet. If you see me walk by, with a twinkle in my eye. Don’t judge this old
man, like any knob-head can. If you sneer as I pass, well you can just kiss

Old people should be invisible
Editor;
Re; Old men behaving badly! (Hillary, Friday, 10 August
2012). Dear Ginger, I presume you prefer not to even see old people. They
should be invisible after the age of 50 just as they are in the West. My
dear, that is why they are here, to not be invisible, and they could care
less about your outmoded ageist attitudes. You could shield your tender
sensibilities if you just did not go to Walking Street at all. I have been
there twice at night in five years and that was to dine, but I don’t throw
stones at those who do go. Why should you?

True Visions foibles in Rayong
Editor;
Re: True Visions troubles (Mailbag, Friday, 03 August
2012). Hello, Rev Stephen in Rayong. The Cable Company here recently changed
to True. Now no BBC, no Aljazeera, no Australian English channel, no Golf
Channel in English... NO English channels except some NHK Japan. Doesn’t
anyone have a brain and understand that having English TV will help the Thai
students/population learn English? Oh... but there are several new Chinese
Channels ... so foolish.

Why are you pickin on Langer?
Editor;
Re: Just stop playing golf (Mailbag, Friday, 10 August 2012).
Hey Eddie, why are you pickin on Langer? He was the victim. True enough he
might have shown a little respect for the thieving sob who cleverly stole
his watch but this is a so called prestigious club, not a bar, short time
hotel or 9 hole pitch and putt and I for one, am sick and tired of being
told by hotels, hospitals, golf clubs, etc., avoiding responsibility, that I
should leave my “good stuff” at home. I didn’t buy it to leave it at home! I
bought it to show off. If they are as high class as they advertise then they
should provide security to prevent this type of theft.
And Mr. Holt, I have played at most of the top rated courses, including
Pebble Beach, and disagree with you re: innate fairness. While true that
some might deny responsibility, most would offer some form of retribution.
One bought me a new set of clubs, including bag and balls, as mine was taken
from outside the pro shop while I was buying some new shoes. I was/am not a
big bucks guy and played there for the first time. I think boycotting
support should be shown Mr. Langer and stay away from that course as there
are plenty more.

Wondering about Fox, too
Editor;
Re: Why only Fox? (Mailbag, Friday, 03 August 2012) I was
wondering the same thing. Fixed Noise (aka Fox News) is just a right wing
propaganda tool. They should have MSNBC as an alternative, since they’re
just as far left. I don’t like either one, maybe a middle of the road news
program like CNN might be a good idea.

Wookie wants city to leave the trees alone

To Whom It May Concern,
My name is “Wookie” and I live near the beach. Every day of this
dog’s life that I lead has been spent in Paradise, except for my first few
months when I was a stray on Jomtien Beach. Fortunately, I was found and
given a home by some caring people. Not only do I have great accommodations
and plenty of good food, but my Master takes me for exercise with daily
walks on the beach.
This brings me to the point of my canine comments, the wholesale destruction
of the trees on the beach side of the road. A Catagory-5 typhoon couldn’t
have done more damage. Besides being an eyesore for any tourist’s first
impression of Pattaya, all the shade has been removed from the sidewalk. It
will take many years for any of these trees to grow back to any size.
On the bright side, there are many new tree stumps for me to mark when we
walk. For that I’m thankful! What ever happened to the profession of “Tree
Surgeon”? I know this isn’t the first time and there’ll probably be many
more rounds of foliage destruction, all in the name of security, so
authorities can survey the beachfront for bad guys. For that, you people
should be thankful!
In the meantime, to make my walks cooler, I’ll get a haircut! I’d love to
complain about the ticks and fleas, but I doubt there would be of any
concern to the city. However, I would like to see a little more concern and
compassion for my stray friends in Pattaya!
Thank you,
Wookie

Fox is cheap
Editor;
Re: Why only Fox? (Mailbag, Friday, 03 August 2012). Fox
is available lots of places probably because of the pricing of the shows.
Since the company is willing to make financial sacrifices to make their
point of view available, lots of cable companies and satellite companies
carry it. MSNBC on the other hand is an expensive show to carry.

Understand your feelings
Editor;
Re: Market rip-off (Mailbag Friday, 10 August 2012). I
certainly understand your feelings. I purchased two containers of 1 liter
milk from Friendship Supermarket along with other items. I took everything
home, placed the milk in my refrigerator. The next morning when I wanted to
add milk to my coffee, I removed the plastic top. Underneath the top there
was another seal, which was already half way opened. This 2nd seal was a
piece of plastic that was glued over the mouth of the bottle, but was
partially removed. I took the milk back to friendship along with the
receipt. The young Chinese looking guy wearing a ton of make-up looks me up
and down, gives me a nasty look and tells me in a disrespectful way, that
maybe I already drank the milk. I asked to speak with the manager. He said
it is Songkran, no have manager and that he can make the decision. I didn’t
argue with the guy, I just turned around and left the store. I rarely shop
there now and never buy milk from them. I can respect the store’s no-return
policy on items purchased, but the disrespectful way in which the guy looked
at me and spoke can not be overlooked.
