Police have arrested a Huay Yai man who allegedly
molested his mentally handicapped niece for a decade.
Sithichai Sroimalee, 35, was taken into custody April 12
after a complaint from the Paveena Foundation for Children and Women that
20-year-old “Ms. A” had been raped by her uncle repeatedly since she was in
fourth grade.
The victim’s 36-year-old mother said she had sent her
daughter to live with her mother in Huay Yai in 2002 after leaving to live
with her new husband. The mother, identified only as “Kae,” said she did
visit her daughter frequently, but only recently learned from neighbors
about the alleged assaults by her brother.
Police said Sithichai admitted he had relations the girl
in 2002, when she was 10, but that it was consensual and that it only
happened once.
Skeptical police, armed with an admission from the victim
about the repeated rapes, found Sithichai tested positive for drugs and was
charged with both molesting a minor and drug use.
