Bangkok Hospital Pattaya launched its Intensive Medical Care Unit, a
suite of six rooms that will open beds in a facility critical-care ward.
Hospital Director Dr. Pichit Kangwolkij and IMCU head Sumalee
Samakanonkarn opened the ward for disease-treatment and semi-critical
patients Oct. 4. The hospital hopes to expand the IMCU to 13 beds by
next year.
Pichit said Bangkok Pattaya is the first hospital on the Eastern
Seaboard to offer a specialized unit responsible for patients out of
critical condition, but still in need of constant monitoring.
The IMCU will have a more-relaxed atmosphere allowing relatives and
guardians a closer opportunity to care and visit, decreasing the
expenses in traditional Intensive Care Unit. Family members are not
allowed to visit patient in the more-expensive ICU.
Pichit said the ward should be operational in January for heart,
post-operative, and geriatrics patients.
