Dog owners and fans of the American Bully breed will
woof it up at the Eastern National Sports Arena May 22 for the first
show to highlight the “ultimate family companion.”
The Pattaya Super Bully Show 2011, organized by the
Pit Bull Zone and Scuba Pit clubs, is aimed at showcasing canines bred
from the American Pit Bull and American Staffordshire terriers.
At a May 6 press conference at Central Festival
Pattaya Beach, Deputy Mayor Ronakit Ekasingh said the exhibition at the
Soi Chaiyapruek 2 stadium would not only help draw tourists to Pattaya,
but dispel misunderstandings about the Bully, a breed of dog only
developed in the mid-1990s.
Event promoter Pongpol Singhanart explained that
while the Bully’s lineage includes the aggressive, oft-maligned pit
bull, it is, in fact, a very docile, friendly breed. It was created by
American Kennel Club breeders to be the “ultimate family companion” and
is known to be outgoing and eager to please. The AKC notes, however,
that young Bullies do have aggressive instincts that need to be curbed
through training.
The Bully arose on the east and west coast of the U.S., but now can
be found in Europe and Asia. The Pattaya show will allow Thai dog farms
to show off their stocks and be evaluated by American judges.
