The British Consulate in Pattaya will be closed due to staff leave from January 10-14, 2011. During this time, the Consular Section of the British Embassy in Bangkok will handle consular enquiries (Tel: 02 305 8333) and requests for notarial services (Tel: 02 305 8351). For notarial services, the Bangkok staff will be able to advise on the best way to submit documents, based on each circumstance. The Consulate in Pattaya will reopen for normal business on Monday, January 17, 2011.

Events

Pattaya Countdown 2011 reaches its finale this Friday, Dec. 31, with a star studded list of live acts performing on stage at Bali Hai Pier from 6 p.m. - 1 a.m. As well as the pop and traditional music there will be food vendors selling delicious fare from all the regions of Thailand as well as souvenir and craft stalls. The highlight will be the grand fireworks display at midnight to usher in the New Year. Admission is free for everyone.

Clubs and Associations

The next meeting of Pattaya City Expats Club (PCEC) will be on Sunday, January 2. Everyone is warmly welcome. The guest speaker will be Paul Salvette, personal assistant to Mechai Viravaidya, Population & Community Development Association. He will be talking about the community development activities of the Association in Thailand and Cambodia. The Club meets every Sunday morning at the Tavern by the Sea Restaurant located on the north end of Beach Road (part of the Amari Orchid Resort). The program starts as usual at 10:30 a.m. with a buffet breakfast available from 9 to 11 a.m. Each week the PCEC usually has an interesting speaker to talk on various subjects of interest in an informal setting. The program is followed by the ever lively and often humorous Open Forum where questions are asked and answers given about living in Pattaya as well as an update on events in and around Pattaya. For the past 28 years the Samaritans of Thailand have been providing confidential crisis intervention services over the telephone. The English-speaking unit, Samaritans English Help Line operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide support to the expatriate community. English-speaking staff, trained in crisis intervention will provide active, non-judgmental and empathetic listening services on the phone. Pattaya Players amateur dramatic troupe has announced auditions for its upcoming murder mystery performance of “Murder Under the Big Top”.
