TAT using golf to draw in foreign tourists

Members of the golfing familiarization trip pose
for a photo at Siam Plantation Course, August 26.
Phasakorn Channgam
The Thai Tourism Authority (TAT) invited approx 50
golf instructors, tour company officials and media representatives from
Europe, Africa and the Middle East to a golf familiarization trip on the
Eastern Seaboard last month which included a friendly competition at
Siam Country Club Plantation course on August 26.
On the evening prior to the competition a special
banquet for the golfing visitors was laid on at the A-One The Royal
Cruise Hotel and was attended by Pattaya City Mayor Itthipol Khunplome,
who welcomed the guests to Pattaya, and Tawatchai Aranyik, the Director
of TAT office for Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
Tawatchai said the trip had been organized to promote
the image of Thailand as both a golfing and tourist destination and
allowed the invited guests to sample both the hospitality and great
golfing venues that the Kingdom has to offer.
The TAT Director also stressed to the guests that golf was not only
confined to the Eastern Seaboard and Bangkok, but that other provinces
of the country such as Chiang Mai, Phetchaburi (Cha-Am), Prachuap Khiri
Khan (Hua Hin) and Phuket also offered great facilities at fantastic
value for money.
Race is on to find best IRC and
OMR sailors at Phuket King’s Cup Regatta
New trophies up for grabs for IRC and OMR combined winners
With IRC and OMR fleets growing in Asia, the 2010
Phuket King’s Cup Regatta will introduce the IRC Combined Fleet Race and
OMR Combined Fleet Race on Saturday 11th December - the final day of the
Regatta. With separate start lines off Kata Bay on Phuket Island’s West
Coast, the two-class-only race allows cruisers to take on the ‘grand
prix’ racers on a level-playing field.

Close action is expected as the monohulls compete on
a level-playing field in the IRC Combined Fleet Race on the last day of
the 2010 Phuket King’s Cup Regatta. (Photo by Guy Nowell/Phuket King’s
Cup Regatta)
“This will be the first combined fleet race of its
kind in Asia,” announced Simon James, Race Director.
The number of IRC rated boats globally is
approximately 7,500 in 40 different countries, 7% of which are in Asia
and of those, 15% are in Thailand. Growing in global popularity, the IRC
rating system is operated by Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC), UK. The
2010 RORC IRC National Championship in the UK had 54 entries while in
2009 the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta saw 87 IRC rated boats take part.
“Each year the fleet of IRC rated boats grows. To my
knowledge, the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta attracts the largest IRC fleet
in the world,” added James.
Since 2007, the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta has seen a
65% increase in IRC rated boats, in part due to the growing number of
IRC boats in the region. Japan, for example, has seen an increase of
133% 2007-2009, significant for the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta as an
independent survey by Infinity Communications & Consultant found that
almost 10% of the 2009 Regatta fleet were Japanese.
The Asian multihull scene is seeing similar growth
with a record 21 multihulls in the 2009 Regatta. Popular one-designs
such as the Australian-designed Phuket-built Firefly 850 Sports, and the
opening of a factory by Corsair Marine in Vietnam, further contribute to
growth of the regional multihull fleet and number racing under OMR.
For the first time in Asia, the 2010 Phuket King’s
Cup Regatta will include one IRC Combined Fleet Race and one OMR
Combined Fleet Race. Both will take place on the final day of the
Regatta and each class will compete for a separate trophy and the
bragging rights of being the ‘IRC Winner’ or ‘OMR Winner’. The final
day’s race does not count to the overall Phuket King’s Cup Regatta
series which will be raced over four days instead of the traditional
five days, this year.
“The IRC Combined Fleet Race on the final day of the
Regatta is a great idea which will give the cruisers and cruiser/racers
a chance to have a go at the flat out racers. IRC is firmly aimed at all
types, sizes and styles of boat and so this is an ideal use of the
rule,” commented Mike Urwin, Technical Director RORC Racing Office.
“While the spread of TCCs and range of boat types
will inevitably mean that conditions on the day will potentially have a
significant effect, I look forward with great interest to seeing the
results.”
Attending the 2010 Phuket King’s Cup Regatta in
official capacity are Jenny Howells Technical Manager RORC Rating
Office, Emma Smith Ratings Secretary RORC Rating Office, Malcolm
Runnells Official Measurer, a representative of the Thailand IRC
Measurement Authority, and the official OMR Thailand representative Mark
Pescott.
Jerry Rollins is Race Officer for the IRC Combined
Fleet and Ross Chisholm Race Officer for the OMR Combined Fleet. Both
starts are off Kata Bay.
“We decided to shake things up a little on the final
day this year, and think competitors will enjoy it. It’ll be great to
see all IRC’s compete against each other and all OMR boats against each
other. I’m sure we’ll see some interesting results,” commented James.
The Phuket King’s Cup Regatta is now in its 24th
year, first sailed in 1987 to celebrate His Majesty the King of
Thailand’s 60th birthday. Under Royal Patronage, the Phuket King’s Cup
Regatta is organised by the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta Organising
Committee under the auspices of the Royal Varuna Yacht Club, in
conjunction with the Yacht Racing Association of Thailand, the Royal
Thai Navy and the Province of Phuket.

‘Nong Dao’ returns with gold medal from Youth Olympics
Tanachot Anuwan
As reported in the Pattaya Mail last month,
Thailand’s sole windsurfing representative at the inaugural Youth Olympic
Games in Singapore was 15-year old Siriporn Kaewduang-Ngam, a.k.a. “Nong
Dao”, who resides here in Pattaya City and conducts her training at Jomtien
Beach.

A sailing star for the present and future, Thailand’s “Nong Dao.”
With many hopes resting on her young shoulders going into
the competition, the precocious teenager handled the pressure like a true
professional and didn’t let any of her many supporters down as she proceeded
to dominate the international field in the Woman’s Techno Windsurf 293 event
to capture one of Thailand’s four gold medals at the Games.
On the first two days of racing, Nong Dao, who was a gold
medal winner at last year’s Asian Youth Games, took first place in the
morning contests but could place only ninth on both events in the
afternoons. This inconsistency in performance seemed to cause some concern
to the young sailor and her coach, Pattana Bunsawat, Advisor for the
Windsurfing Association of Thailand, took her to one side and gave her some
advice to boost her morale.
The pep talk certainly seemed to do the trick as Nong Dao
proceeded to reel off a series of five consecutive race wins and despite
finishing only fourth in the final medal race she had done enough to hold
off the challenge of her main rivals, Italy’s Veronica Fanciulli and
Singapore’s Audrey Yong, who took second and third places respectively.
After the event, Nong Dao said that the windsurfers from
Europe had given her the most cause for concern due to their stronger
physiques, however she was able to defeat them with the help of her sponsors
and supporters.

Thailand’s gold medal winner Siriporn Kaewduang-Ngam
“Nong Dao”, center, is flanked by silver medalist Veronica Fanciulli
(Italy), left, and bronze medal winner Audrey Yong (Singapore).
“I’m very proud of myself and I’m very proud of my
country,” she said as she stepped ashore after the final race. “It’s a lot
of good experience and I’ve got to know a lot of friends. I’ve found out
what it’s like to win and lose. Losing is also important. If you can take
victory you must also be able to take defeat.”
On returning home the young sailing starlet said she was
glad and proud to represent both the Kingdom and Pattaya City at the Youth
Olympic Games and paid thanks to her coach Pattana Bunsawat as well as the
President of the Windsurfing Association, Itthipol Khunplome (Mayor of
Pattaya City), and all relevant units that provided support that enabled her
to be a gold medalist in Singapore.
In honor of her achievements, The Sport Authority of
Thailand and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports duly presented her with a
cash prize of 500,000 THB, an honorary plaque, and a free education
scholarship. Presently Nong Dao is a student at Muang Pattaya School 7.
Nong Dao hopes to continue her windsurfing success into her next
competition later this month in Oman.
Hot Shots breaks off in Pattaya
New pool venue opens its doors for the first time

The
Mayor takes time out from his official duties to sink a few balls.
Staff Reporters
Another new entertainment venue was added to Pattaya’s
long list of attractions last week as the brand new ‘Hot Shots’ pool hall
opened its doors for the first time on 2nd Road in
north Pattaya.

Pattaya Mayor Ittipol Khunpluem, right, joins with
Hot Shots proprietors Jason Cole, 2 nd
left, and John Robinson, far left, to officially open the new pool hall.
In a special open evening, held Tuesday August 31, pool
players and their friends and partners from all over town joined dignitaries
to christen this state of the art fully air-conditioned establishment which
is a joint venture between two English gentlemen, Jason Cole and John
Robinson.
The Hot Shots pool hall is located on the site of the old
Palladium discotheque in north Pattaya, on the right hand side of 2nd
Road between Big C and the Dolphin roundabout and boasts 11 brand new 9-foot
Brunswick replica American pool tables as well as 6 plasma TV’s,
strategically placed above the tables so that players can watch their
favourite live sports and music videos while shooting some pool.
A well stocked bar offers drinks to suit all palates at
very reasonable prices with bottled beers starting from just 70 baht. Snacks
and other food will be available from the menu so you have no need to go
elsewhere for a great afternoon or evening out.
For beginners to the game of pool (and old pros alike)
there are two of the best pool players in Thailand on hand at Hot Shots to
provide tips on how to improve your play and the management also intends to
offer free coaching sessions to children aged 13-18 on Saturday & Sunday
mornings between 9:00 – 12:00. For more information about this you can
contact the Hot Shots pool hall on [email protected].
For regular pool sharks interested in some tournament
play, there will be a 9-ball knock-out competition for men every Saturday
starting at 15:30 and every Monday there will be a woman only 9-ball
competition named the “Hotshots Hotties.” On the first Thursday of every
month there will be a mixed-pairs scotch doubles tournament.
There will also be a singles league starting in October
with three separate divisions and entrance fees starting at 1,000 baht up to
3,000 baht with 8-ball, 9 ball and 10-ball formats employed. Anyone
interested in entering the league should submit their entry before October
1.
The cost to play pool at Hot Shots is very reasonable
with hourly rates just 120 baht per table from 12:00 - 6:00pm and 180 per
hour in the evening until the 2:00am close.
Amongst the large gathering last Tuesday, Pattaya Mayor
Ittipol Khunpluem was on hand to officially open the venue and also show off
his prowess on the blue baize. Hot Shots hopes to attract some more big
names in the coming months with snooker legend Jimmy ‘Whirlwind’ White
penciled in for a December date to play a special exhibition match.
All in all the Hot Shots pool hall has a lot to offer
both the casual and more serious pool player so why not make a date to come
down and check it out soon.
Note: From now until the end of September Hot
Shots is offering FREE pool play on all its tables on a first come first
served basis subject to availability.

The Hot
Shots venue offers 11 professional grade pool tables
in an air-conditioned environment.
Thompson machine guns the field
PSC golf from The Three Sisters Bar
Once again the powers that be looked down favorably on
the Three Sisters Group and provided us with beautiful sunshine and minimum
humidity on Wednesday, Sept. 1 at Pattaya Country Club. “He” still needs to
work on the greens though!

Wednesday winner Bill Thompson, left, with runner-up
Larry Emerson
This first day of the month fielded three groups. The
first group quickly moved out and were not seen again, the second group
moved out and they didn’t see players in front or behind. It was a great day
for golf.
Back at Caddy Shack II, Herbie again provided snacks and
“almost” foot long hot dogs. A tally of the score cards revealed that Bill
Thompson burned up the course with a 41 points, not bad for a 10
handicapper. Dragging behind was Larry Emerson with a respectful 33 points.
Joe St. Laurent and Richard Hall were close on Larry’s heels with 32 points.
All in all it was a good start for September.
Low scores at tough Mountain Shadow
Jomtien Golf with the I.P.G.C.
Monday, August 30,
Mountain Shadow – Stableford
This course is now preferred by many to Crystal Bay, but
the ladies find it difficult and there were seven cancellations overnight
leaving us with just four groups for the day.
The greens are improving here on every visit (the last
time here there were five holitized with half of each green in perfect
condition), and now after growth over the past three weeks they are almost
finished and are becoming even faster. The scores reflected this today with
30 points winning both divisions.
Billy Hewitt lost out to Chris Voller on a 15/16 back
nine count-back for top spot in A flight while in division 2 a meagre 25
points got Barry Rawlinson into second position with Tom Novak winning 5
points ahead.
Bill and Chris were in the headlines again, sharing the
rollover ‘2’s from Century Chonburi with birdies on the 5th
and 15th respectively, while in the second division
there are now five rollovers.
We said a fond farewell to Harry Vincenzi who will be
returning here just after the new year. Have a good trip Harry.
Friday, Sept. 3, Eastern
Star - Stableford
After the best turnout for some time in the I.P.G.C.
monthly medal at Green valley on Wednesday, it was back to reality for us
today at Eastern Star. We had a smaller field than normal but still with two
divisions for the men and one for the ladies.
Very pleasant conditions today and another slight
improvement in the greens and with rumours from the management that come
next April they are shutting 9 holes down to refurbish the course. Who
knows? We will keep you updated!
A warm welcome was made today to Rioja Jon playing his
first game with us and with a 6 handicap the division 1 cut was 6-11 and in
the second flight 12+. There were three scores of 37 recorded with Tom Byrne
losing out for first place in division 1 on count-back (19/18) to Mikael
Andersson. The same score was recorded by Jim Lane in division 2 with Don
Head finishing second with 35 points.
Miss Nut beat Miss Noi on the back nine with 18/17 after
they both came in with 31 points; Miss Nut was also the only winner in the
two nearest the pins for the ladies.
There were no ‘2’s today in all three divisions so
rollovers ensue to next Friday.
Note: There have been numerous e-mails over the
past weeks relating to returns between mid-October and early November so
there are two planned trips from Siam Cats over the next six weeks before
the high season kicks in , if there is one this year, to Kanchanaburi and
Kabinburi. All the information is on the board in the bar.
North edges Philips on count-back
PSC golf from The Caddyshack
Friday, Sept. 3, St.
Andrews – Stableford
1st Jeff North (9) 39pts
2nd Mike Phillips (10) 39pts
3rd
Vincent Smyth (10) 37pts
Only six players showed up for the long trip to Treasure
Hill on Wednesday, thus negating the need for a competition although Clive
Bruce recorded the best score of the small contingent.
On Friday we had slightly a better turnout of nine
players to tackle a damp St. Andrews course off the white tees and Jeff
North and Mike Phillips recorded the joint top scores of 39 points each,
with Jeff just pushing Mike into second place on the count-back. Vincent
Smyth took third place a further two points back.
Note: The Caddy Shack is situated on Soi 8
Threppasit, follow the soi to the well appointed Old English style Bar. We
play golf twice a week, Wed/Fri, until the punters return, then Mon/Wed/Fri.
We can also arrange golf trips outside these days. For more information

The IPGC Monthly Members’ Tournament

Wednesday, September 1
- Green Valley
Green Valley was the perfect venue for the opening
IPGC Monthly Members’ tournament of the new season. The course was
wonderfully well set up and a large field of almost twenty groups
gathered to play in the four Monthly Medal flights.
Each Monthly Medal competition provides three winners
in the gentlemen’s divisions and one from the ladies, who will go
forward to the finals to compete for the Gold and Silver Medals later in
the season. In addition the medals will also be used to determine the
IPGC ‘gentleman player of the year’, with between 1 and 15 points to be
won in each division every month, dependant on final positions, which
will then be aggregated for the year to establish the overall winner. As
usual the first division contests a stroke play format whilst the
second, third and ladies’ divisions play stableford.
In the first division the current IPGC ‘gentleman
player of the year’, Steve Mascari, led the field off and there were no
shortage of golfers intent on taking the honour away from him at the
start of the new season. However, toppling a golfer of his quality would
take something special as Steve’s gross score of 73 set an excellent
standard, but on this occasion it was not quite enough as he lost third
place on net 71 (cb 35), along with Chris Voller (35.5), to Jeff
Cordiero’s 34.5. Also on net 71 was Ted Gardner and his count-back score
of 34 gave him second place. The flight winner was Mark Campbell and his
net 69 represented the best score of the day.
The second division saw Harry Vincenzi’s 33
stableford points finish third, one point behind lady golfer Saranya
Riley whose 34 points just lost out on count-back to the flight winner
Grant Cadell. Saranya is an exceptional lady golfer who relishes taking
on her gentlemen peers from the white tees and the IPGC’s new Ladies
Representative did a remarkable job in attracting golfers for the
ladies’ flight.
The third division was just as competitive with Len
Jones’ 32 points edging out Joe Kubon for second place on count-back by
two points on the back six. The winner was Roar Berger with 33 points.
The ladies division saw Mam Morel, Orawan Meeraka and
Padsak Ryves all finish with 39 points but Mam’s count-back total of
21/14 took the honours from Orawan’s 21/13 and Padsak’s 18.
In the ‘2’s competitions there was the unusual
situation of only one ‘2’ in each of the gentlemen’s flights with the
honours going to Phil Mitchell, Peter Duncan and Len Jones respectively
whilst Mam Morel and Nar Hector both recorded ‘2’s in the ladies’
flight.
The introduction of a ‘near pin’ competition in all
flights was a welcome distraction and the myriad of winners are listed
below.
Following a packed presentation buffet at Jomtien
Golf’s base, Siam Cats, generously sponsored as always by the IPGC, the
IPGC Chairman and event Starter, Chris Knapp, warmly thanked all those
who had worked hard once again to ensure the success of the competition,
especially registrar Glyn Evans from Jomtien, results coordinator
Stephen Beard and the event organiser Russell Exley.
The new season for the IPGC Monthly Members’
Tournament had started well and some very competitive golf lies ahead
over the next twelve months.

CSS 71
1st Roar Berger (27) 40pts
2nd Rodney Hayes (10) 38pts
3rd
Shuichi Kodaka (17) 34pts
Following the recent heavy rains in the area,
unsurprising that one again “lift and place” was the day’s rule in the
fairways and with very little run to be had from the tee shots, it was a
very elated Roar Berger who led in the field with a an excellent four under
handicap round that owed much to his ability to keep it on the short stuff
combined with an unusually tidy short game. This enabled him to take the
day’s top spot with two shots to spare from the as always reliable Rodney
Hayes in second place.
Shuichi Kodaka rounded out the podium as the poor weather
forecasts and over golf took their toll on many of the usual contenders.
There were no 2’s in either division.
Before presenting the prizes Stephen Beard welcomed back
Stewart Hutchins.
Friday, Sept. 3, The
Emerald - Stableford
CSS71
1st Al Keith (4) 40pts
2nd Dave Stockman (5) 38pts
3rd Marty Rock (11) 37pts
4th Shuichi Kodaka (17) 37pts
5th Grant Cadell (15) 36pts
6th Rodney Hayes (10) 35pts
7th
Tony Barritt (14) 35pts
Following a very successful day at the IPGC Monthly
Medals Competition, it was back to a normal golf day which was very well
supported at the Emerald, also no doubt due to the close availability of the
local cafes and bars where thirsts can be quenched immediately following the
golfing activities.
The day’s golf included two outstanding rounds from Dave
Stockman, who returned a gross 75 for 38 points and second place, and an
even more remarkable return from Al Keith with a gross 72 which netted him
40 points and the day’s top honour. Even considering that once again “lift
and place” was the order for the fairways following yet another overnight
downpour, these were still great scores as the general going was definitely
on the difficult side of hard with the only real assistance being the
ability of the greens to receive the ball and stop.
Another factor underling these exceptional scores, was
that over 40% of the starters were 10 handicappers or below.
Al’s return was rightfully rewarded with the top place on
the podium with Dave Stockman a very creditable second ahead of Marty Rock,
who once again stayed the course well just taking third place with a better
count back of 19 to push Shuichi Kodaka down to fourth as he could only
muster 14 over the inward half following a stunning six under handicap for
the front nine.
Grant Cadell carried on where he had left off at the
Monthly Medals with a solid level par round for 5th
spot with Rodney Hayes once again in the reckoning and just pipping Tony
Barritt in the count back by 19 to 18 for sixth.
Shuichi Kodaka scored the lone ‘2’ in the second division
while Al Keith and Rick Holmes had one each in the first division.
Back at The Haven Robert Taylor was welcomed as a new
member and Frithjof Kayser was welcomed back.
Note: If you would like to play with The Haven
group you can contact mobile 084782 4582 or call in to the hotel at 185 Soi
13 between Beach Road and 2nd Road. All transportation to the
course is arranged and you do not need to sign up prior to the day, but you
should be there by 8.30 on Mondays, Wednesday, Fridays and Sundays on the
days you wish to play. A schedule of courses to be played can be found on
our web site at www.thehaven-hotel.com.
Greig the star of the show at Emerald
PSC golf from The Bunker Bar
Monday, August 30,
Mountain Shadow - Stableford
We arrived at the course to find it empty and in
surprisingly good condition, with the fairways even appearing a little
on the dry side. Always a difficult test, the greens were in good shape,
but variable in speed, with 3 putts being the order of the day, and
Gerry even recording a 5 putt! When asked how he managed that, he
replied that he sank a 6-footer!

Geoff Parker celebrates his win at Pattana on Friday
with Tuk.
Takeshi continued his recent run of good form to take
the honours with an impressive 38 points, ahead of Colin Greig, Geoff
Cox, and newly crowned Golfer of the Month Peter Habgood.
Gerry, Mashi, PJ, and Roger shared the near pin
prizes between them.
1st Takeshi Hakozaki (12) 38pts
2nd Colin Greig (13) 36pts
3rd Geoff Cox (16) 35pts
4th Peter Habgood (17) 32pts
Wednesday, Sept. 1, The Emerald - Medal
A smaller group of golfers than usual made the trip
to Bang Chang, to find the course in good condition and the weather
perfect.
Colin Greig was the star of the day, recording his
best ever round in Thailand, and impressive it was too. With a gross
score of 76 (9 under handicap) he was unbeatable. His round included 8
consecutive pars on the back nine, and he just missed out on the 18thh
when his putt lipped out of the hole. Well done Colin, and I don’t think
we’ll be seeing you playing off a 13 handicap again in the near future!
Geoff Parker finished second, 11 points behind Colin
and beating PJ on a count-back.
Geoff Parker and not surprisingly Colin Greig (with
3) shared the near pins.
1st Colin Greig (13) 45pts
2nd Geoff Parker (16) 34pts
3rd PJ Redmond (19) 34pts
Friday, Sept. 3, Pattana - Stableford
Toay we made a welcome return to Pattana after
several months hiatus caused by disagreements over pricing during the
previous high season.
Following heavy overnight rain, the course was soggy
in places, but the weather on the day was fine and relatively cool. We
played the A and B nines and the lack of roll made some of the holes
play very long, with some of the higher handicap players struggling to
reach the greens in regulation..
Only Geoff Parker managed to better his handicap on
the day to take first place. In second place was Eddie Martin, with the
ever consistent Mashi coming third, although the rumour is that Mashi
lost out on the “bits” for the second game running to Geoff, a severe
disruption to his regular golf income.
Near pins went to Geoff Cox, Mashi and Geoff Parker
(2).
1st Geoff Parker (16) 38pts
2nd Eddie Martin (15) 35pts

Monthly award goes

Tuesday, August 31, The
Emerald – Stableford
Another month gone by and as usual it was time to
determine the winner of the ‘Alan Bolton Golfer of The Month Award’, so with
the points in from four completion days we were left with only three
possible winners.

Dick Warburg, right, and one of Alan Bolton’s staff
members, centre, present the Alan Bolton monthly award to Tom, left.
Leading was Tom Cotton, just ahead of Mashi, with Steve
Hamstad hot on their heels. Tom was only landing at the airport in the
afternoon so points for Mashi or a second from Steve would see them leapfrog
above Tom. Memory serves me in that Mashi had won the last two months and
was ‘Alan Bolton Golfer of The Year’ last year, while Tom was Golfer of the
Year in 2008. Steve always just seems to come up short. Would he this month?
The day was fine and the drive down was very good as
Mashi was driving, nice and relaxing. We were soon there and on the first
tee. The weather was quite good, no rain, but with so much rain of late the
fairways were out of bounds for carts. Still, let the caddy drive and it is
amazing how things can be circumvented!

Tuesday winner Bill Knight, right, with runner up Barry
Elphick, left, and one of Bert’s helpers, centre.
The course was nice and empty and we were able to zoom
around, at least some of us were as soon as the ladies let us through. The
fairways were reasonable and the greens quite good if a little slow, mind
the rough was a little severe. Still, with tees back we thought the scores
would be a little low.
We were soon around and with Mashi playing in my
four-ball and not playing well for him, I knew it was all on whether Steve
could come in with a good score and whether he could break his unlucky run
of just missing out. And Steve came in with 36 points, but was it enough
even though it proved to be the equal second best score?
Back at Bert’s Tom came in to see if he had managed to
hang on and we started the presentation. The winner on the day was Bill
Knight with 38 points, but now to the all important second place, and we had
a three-way count-back on 36 points, would Steve win it? Well no was the
answer. He just missed out again when Barry Elphick was in second, yours
truly in third and Steve Hamstad in fourth. The ‘Hamster’ just misses out
again.
So the ‘Alan Bolton Golfer of the Month’ was Tom Cotton.
Welcome back Tom. T.T.F.N.

Bowlers: Joe, Yeow, Mai, Jang, Somrak and Nok.
Café Kronborg remains in first place after winning
three points from Green Tree. Jang Shaw bowled a 601 series, the best of

Kronborg. Tue Pettae bowled a 531 for Green Tree.
Second place VFW Post 9876 won three points from
Canada behind Somrak’s 202 game, 555 series and Tui Amphanon’s 511

from Bavaria. Antero Ronkainen led Brother D with a 535 series.
Joe Ferral bowled a 210 game, 533 series and Mai
Munsitha had a 202, 530 series to lead USMC to a four point win over
Jack Tar. Yeow bowled a 201 game, 591 series for Jack Tar.
Nok Kennedy bowled a 216 first game and a 580 series to lead Sabai
Friday to a three point win over House of the Golden Coin. Mio Aamlid
was best for Golden Coin with a 512 series.
Fergus finds top form
Golf from the Travellers Rest
Barry Hooper
I have reported on the renewed performance of our
headliner Fergus Brennan several times over past weeks but even he found a
way to go just the one better this last week with his performance at Phoenix
on Thursday and coming home with a score of forty-five points (gross 74) to
take the day by a clear eight points on his nearest rival Billy Ostle. Well
Done Fergus - I know just how hard he works on his game.
I had intended to publish a photo of Fergus but I do
happen to know just how much he hates having his photograph taken and so out
of courtesy to his fine performance have not supplied one this week (the
real truth is that I actually forgot to take one - sorry).
Monday, August 30, Green
Valley - Stableford
1st Ted Senior (14) 37pts
2nd Roger Wilkinson (15) 37pts
3rd
David Booth (13) 34pts
On Monday we went to Green Valley with a modest group, so
just one division. I have it reported that conditions were very good.
Ted Senior moved away from his usual ‘2’s endeavours to
pick up the top place with a thirty-seven pointer, but only after he took
the count-back on the back six over Roger Wilkinson. David Booth was third.
A single ‘2’ from Alan Thomas took home the spoils on the
day
Tuesday, August 31,
Plutaluang (N&W) – Stableford
1st Billy Ostle (15) 39pts
2nd Alan Thomas (7) 39pts
3rd
David Booth (13) 37pts
Tuesday had us attending Plutaluang and taking advantage
of their good price deal. Again we had a modest entry so just the one
division. We did have visitors from Wah Hin and Perth Australia helping to
swell the ranks.
Billy Ostle won the count-back over Alan Thomas for the
win, both on thirty-nine. Third spot was David Booth with thirty-seven for
the second time in two days.
Four ‘2’s this time came from David Booth, Chris Stewart,
Warren Gallop and Mr. ‘2’ Ted Senior.
Thursday, September 2,
Phoenix – Stableford
Div. 1
1st Fergus Brennan (11) 45pts
2nd Billy Ostle (14) 37pts
3rd Alan Thomas (7) 36pts
Div. 2
1st Laurie Bevan (27) 40pts
2nd William Smith (15) 38pts
3rd Alan Evans (31) 34pts
Robert Kenyon 34 hc 16 c/b
On Thursday it was back yet again to Phoenix to play
Mountain and Ocean. We encountered good conditions and had a very big
turnout so two divisions.
This course is really bringing out some good scoring
these days. Last week we had several forties and the same again this week.
Division 1 went to Fergus Brennan with the great score of 45 points and the
decond flight to Laurie Bevan with a 40-pointer. In second spots were Billy
Ostle (37pts, Div 1) and William Smith (38pts, Div 2) and a third for Alan
Thomas (36pts, Div 1) and Alan Evans (34pts, Div 2).
Five ‘2’s on the day came from Doug Miller, Alan Thomas,
Fergus Brennan, Amphan North and Paula Byrne.
Saturday, August 28, The
Emerald – Stableford
1st Alan Thomas (7) 38pts
2nd Fergus Brennan (9) 35pts
3rd David Booth (13) 32pts
4th
Tom Noonan (20) 32pts
On Saturday it was back again to the Ban Chang area for a
third weekend visit to Emerald.
Fergus Brennan tried very hard to make it a double for
the week (and also consecutive weekends) but this was spoilt when Alan
Thomas, after his fourth, third and a second spot finishes during the week,
eventually made the top spot with a score of thirty-eight points for the
win. Fergus was just the three back in second and along with David Booth
made a ‘2’ on the day.

Graham the bridesmaid again
PSC Golf from Mulligans Lakeside
Tuesday, August 31 –
Rayong C.C. - Stableford
Tuesday saw the group return to Rayong C.C. for the
second week in a row, due in no small part to the great value on offer,
combined with the course being in its best condition of the past several
years.

Ken Hole and Keith Hodges.
After last week’s dismal return, Jeff Wylie (6) returned
to some decent form to lead the way home with 38 points, 1 ahead of last
week’s runner up, the consistent Graham Hiskett (13). We commented last week
of Graham’s recent return from a trip away and it hasn’t taken him long to
settle back in and will be hard to beat over the next few weeks (but we will
try).
Near pins were collected by said Graham with 2 and Ken
Graham got the other 2.
Thursday, September 2,
Treasure Hill – Stableford
Thursday saw a new month and a trip to that testing
venue, Treasure Hill, and the status quo remains, the course is still tough.
The management at Treasure Hill are steadily improving the course with
several new tee boxes and a green currently under construction, along with
cart paths and defining some hazards.
We had a small field again today so went to the front 9,
back 9 and overall prize split, with some small recompense for near pins.
Jeff Wylie (6) got the front 9 with 16 points while Ken
Hole (15) and Keith Hodges (25) shared the back 9 with 17 each.
Unfortunately for both Ken and Keith, they had both had ‘Barry Crockers’
(shockers) on the F9, allowing Jeff to get the overall with an unspectacular
return of 28 points.
The near pins were picked up by Jeff and Derek with 1
each, while the other 2 resulted in donations to the Banglamung Boy’s Home.
Note: Mulligans Lakeside plays golf generally on
Tuesday & Thursday (we sometimes change to accommodate a Thai Holiday).
Presentations are made at the course on Tuesday, with Mulligans Lakeside
hosting the Thursday presentation. For more details on scheduling etc,
please call Jeff 089 094 1841 or Ray 081 935 8088. Hope to see you there,
Cheers & Good Golfing!
Ramsay wreaks havoc at St. Andrews
IPGC Pattaya Golf Society based at Rabbi’s Elephant Bar
The Pattaya Golf Society visited the deliciously tempting
course at St Andrews on Tuesday, 31st August to end the month in high style
with a stableford event off the white tees. The course was empty and the
attraction of the current promotion had teased a large group away from Soi
Buakhao for the day.

Ronnie
Ramsay celebrates after his fine round at St. Andrews.
It was pleasing for the group to have David Thomas
playing with his soulmates again after such a long absence shepherding in
WA. And didn’t it show in his game! He would later receive the Booby Bevy
for his efforts.
Just missing out on the places was Mr. Len with 33 points
but sharing second place with respectable scores of 34 points each were Tony
Thorne and Brian Shaw, an Aussie duo of impeccable golf stock.
The winner was Ronnie Ramsay, Scottish to the core, and
his power game kicked in with 42 points to record the group’s best winning
score at the course in ten visits. His score included a birdie ‘2’ on the
fifth, sharing the honour with David Thomas and Ronnie Senior took a birdie
on the tenth to make it a family double.
St. Andrews did not disappoint and once again the club
did the group proud in the presentation of the course. Anticipation is high
for a return visit in a few weeks time.
High time for Lazecki
Emerald Ban Chang has a certain attraction for all
Pattaya golfers and the Pattaya Golf Society joined the fun with a visit
there on Saturday, 4th September, to play a stableford competition on the
well presented course. Fairways were still soft after the recent seasonal
rains and this made the course play long with little run but the greens were
very receptive and accuracy was amply rewarded
As things turned out two golfers were to show their
skills in particular. Sharing third place on 32 points were Tony Thorne and
Bob St Aubin, the latter in the frame finally after many months of trying.
In second place with the best gross of the day, 77, was Jon Lay and his card
was only marred by two double bogeys, ironically on both par threes on the
back nine, giving him 36 points.
The winner, a rarity this, was Canadian golfer Tim
Lazecki who put all the months of practice to good effect to enter a score
of 40 points. It represented Tim’s best round since a similar score in early
March at Royal Lakeside.
There were no birdie ‘2’s and the Booby Bevy went to Mr. Len for breaking
the cardinal rule when his car broke down on the way to Ban Chang and not on
the return journey, thus causing havoc to the startlist and timings for the
rest of the day. Still, there’s always next weekend at Ban Chang.
Neville wins on his debut
The Ban Chang Golf Society

Skins
winner Terry, left, with stableford champ Neville.
Friday, Sept. 3, The
Emerald - Stableford
Another Friday and another round of golf at Emerald Golf
Course. Arriving at the course it was surprisingly very quiet so after
saying welcome back to Danny L., the first group managed to tee off at just
after 9am. Three groups again this week, which now seems to be about normal
for this time of the year with players coming and going on a weekly basis.
Yet again we got to the 8th hole and it started to rain
but thankfully no where near as bad as previous weeks and by the time we got
through the 9th it had stopped.
Back in the clubhouse by 1pm, the prize giving was
delayed a little bit by the final four-ball (older members) but once
underway it was revealed that new boy Neville won the stableford competition
with an ordinary score of 33 points.
JJ seems to own the nearest the pin prize as he won for
the third week in a row. Terry C had a good week in the skins with (12)
followed by Bernie (3) and Andy C taking (4) before going back to work next
week.
It was down to Mama’s Bar in Ban Chang afterwards for a few cold ones
with everyone talking about taking JJ’s 7 and 8 irons so they would be
unavailable for the nearest the pin hole next week!
Bridge in Paradise: by Neil Robinson
Here is another
bidding challenge. West deals with no one vulnerable. Imagine you are
sitting South. The bidding starts as shown below - what do you bid now?

West North East South
1D Dbl 1H ?
Your partner doubles
for takeout, asking you to bid a suit. If East had passed, then you would
have had to bid something. Since East bid, you are off the hook and can
pass. You have a fairly poor five point hand. Do you bid or do you pass?
Assume you pass. West
likes his hand (with a fit for East’s hearts, good long diamonds and a
singleton club) and goes straight to four hearts. The contract makes,
provided declarer finesses North for the queen of trumps, which is indicated
because it was North who did the bidding. EW take four hearts and six
diamonds, losing only two spade tricks and a club. Ten tricks made for 420
against you.
Now assume you bid one
spade, since your partner should have four spades for the takeout double.
West still bids four hearts but North can now overcall four spades since he
knows you have something in the suit. You finesse successfully for the king
of spades and lose only two hearts and one diamond. You take four spade
tricks, five clubs and a diamond ruff on board. Again ten tricks made but
this time for 420 your way, a swing of 840.
This is one of those
deals, surprisingly common, where both sides can make game. The moral of
the story is that, if you want to be on the side making game rather than
conceding it, then you need to bid, particularly if you think you have a fit
with partner, and (within limits) no matter how bad your hand is!

Wong shines at Khao Kheow
PSC golf from Café Kronborg
San Mig Stu
Monday, August 30, Khao
Kheow – Stableford.
Firstly, many thanks to the stand in writer “The Drut”
for his truly witty columns over the past three weeks, whilst this stand in
writer for (Peter Blackburn) was away visiting other parts of Asia. Peter
will be back in early October and will continue with his column then.

Mondays winners, Henry Wong, left, and Dean Stewart,
right, with the Admiral, Dave Richardson.
There were 2 very full buses required for the Admiral
(Dave Richards) to haul asses aboard, with the usual “LETS GO” at precisely
8.15am. A comfortable forty minutes later we were at the spectacular Khao
Kheow golf club house checking in. A record 28 Café Kronborg golfers lined
up to play today, which was a fabulous turn out for this time of the year.
The first group teed off at 9.30am from the forward white
tees to tackle the A and B courses and finished their round in a smart 4
hours and 20 minutes including two drink stops. The weather was just about
perfect with cloud cover and a light breeze complimenting a great course.
The A graders found the going a bit tough as most of
their drives were leaving them delicate little chips or half shots for their
approaches. The B nine greens had been recently cored however no other
excuses could be raised to justify mediocre scores on the average.
Mike G. pointed out that many players seemed to struggle
a bit with the B course today with examples being Hugh O’Donnell 24/12 and
Jean-Claude Caucon with a 3/5 on the 10th hole and 11
points on the remaining 8 holes. Going through the cards though, it was also
noted that some players improved considerably on the B course, mainly due to
having a lousy A course score! Yours truly would be included in this with a
13/18. No comment from the usually consistent Mike Winfield for his poor
form today!
By the way congratulations to Mike Gosden for finally
breaking his hoodoo on the Alcatraz 17th hole par
three island green by lobbing his tee shot onto the green and being the only
one of the group of four who all knocked on in one, to par the hole!
A number of visitors were welcomed today with some of
these burglars mixing it in the winner’s circle of both A and B grades!
Welcomes were given to Yasuteru Takasaka from Japan, Dean
Stewart from Mandurah Country Club near Perth, Western Australia who
comfortably won the A flight, Chris Stewart and John Coombs also from the
Mandurah C.C. and John Pratt from England. Barry McIntosh also graced us
with his presence before he returned to Oz later in the week. We look
forward to his return in the near future.
Having a healthy number of players allowed the winners
circle to run down to the first five players in each flight with nearest
pins and longest putts also in the prize pool.
As mentioned, Dean Stewart won A flight with a solid 38
points with most of the spoils shared by Mike Gosden, Martin Todd and John
Pratt, all with 36 points and Owen Walkley with 33 points.
The highlight of the day however was a sterling 45 points
submitted by Henry Wong who romped home to take out B flight. Look out Henry
as your handicap is about to be slashed! Second in B flight was Per Anders
Karlson, with a sound 38 points, followed by Barry McIntosh 36, Hugh
O’Donnell 36 and Ronnie Ratte on 35. Ronnie leaves us for a month to return
to work in Korea and we wish him a safe trip and early return.
A Flight (0–17)
1st Dean Stewart (13) 38pts
2nd Mike Gosden (11) 36pts
3rd Martin Todd (7) 36pts
4th John Pratt (7) 36pts
5th Owen Walkley (15) 33pts
B Flight (18+)
1st Henry Wong (28) 45pts
2nd Per Anders Karlson (18) 38pts

Thursday, Sept. 7, Rayong C.C. – Stableford
The first group of our seventeen golfers teed off at 0930
and completed their round under cloudy skies in 4hrs and 20 minutes. The
course was very well presented although the greens were reportedly slow.
The Aussies slaughtered the A flight today with Chris
Stewart shooting 37 points to win, from Martin Todd (36pts) in second on a
count back from Dean Stewart also on 36.
Mike Winfield found form from his Monday outing to
rebound with a win in B flight on 33 points, followed closely by Les Hall
with 32 and Hugh O’Donnell also on a count back for third with 32 points.
The Compass Award contingency is pleased to report that
despite the lack of any donation today, due to any wayward scores, the bin
collected so far this year is now well in excess of 3,000 baht and the
monies collected will, at an appropriate time, be presented to a children’s
charity here in Pattaya.
A Flight (0-15)
1st Chris Stewart (4) 37pts
2nd Martin Todd (7) 36pts
3rd Dean Stewart (13) 36pts

Sweet success for the ‘Sugarman’
PSC golf from The Outback Golf Bar

Scottish
challengers for the Roo Cup, Mark & Ian,
with the holders on the right, Steve & Andy.
Monday, August 30, Burapha
– Stableford
The day after Liang Wen Chong successfully fended off a
challenge from local hope Namchok Tantipokakul to win the Thailand Open by
one stroke; 26 Outbackers tried valiantly to emulate the Chinese star’s 18
under final score at Burapha.

The
Decanter leader John Stafford after the first round at Green Valley on
Friday.
Playing the same nines, B & D, with the pins in the
identical final day positions, Rosco came closest, finishing three under his
handicap with a fine 39 points to win Div A. He was delighted with his win
and to have experienced the tricky course set up, although we did play from
the (blues on B) and (whites on D), not the blacks. The rough was the
toughest it has ever been and the greens were moderately fast but very
smooth with no signs of the previous four day tournament.
Paul Young got his putter working right from the start,
hardly missing a putt for his 38 points (2nd in Div A)
and Mark Williams had moments of brilliance, picking up 14 points in just
four holes, before going to sleep with three one pointers in a row;
nevertheless he finished in third place with 37.
Div B suffered badly in the tough set up; Hans Kafka, who
hails from a very difficult course in Australia, was the only player to make
30 points, with second going to Bruce McAdam on 28.
In the ‘2’s department the boys did better amassing a
total of five; from B2 Ivan Plunkett and Jim Brackett, with Paul Young &
Mark Williams, playing in the same group, scoring both theirs on B8.
Div A (0-16)
1st Rosco Langoulant (14) 39pts

2nd Bruce McAdam (22) 28pts
3rd Ian Hart (20) 27pts
4th Jeff Clarkson (25) 26pts
Monday, August 30, Green Valley - Stableford
There were 15 Outbackers in the competition today plus a
guest of one of the boys, a caddie from Burapha, who is a very accomplished
golfer. This was the last of the alternate Mondays until we can find a new
home and our thanks go to Joe who has single handedly booked and organised
them all.
The ‘Sugarman’ was in great form today, trouncing the
field with 44 points and seven clear of the next best, the ever steady Ian
Heddle on 37. Erik Antonnen’s golf is up and down; today being an ‘up day’
as he took third place with 36, which was his last round for a few weeks as
he returns to work.. Joe got Gez and Paul on count-back for fourth place,
all on 34.
The course was in reasonable shape but is showing some
signs of wear and tear as it remains a popular venue and everybody played at
a good pace of around four hours.
There were just two ‘2’s from Erik and Ian.
1st Sugar Ray Handford (18) 44pts
2nd Ian Heddle (4) 37pts
3rd Erik Anttonen (8) 36pts
4th Joe Mooneyham (15) 34pts

Tuesday, August 31, Pattaya C.C. - Stableford
Following on from the Pakistan cricket betting scam, did
husband John nobble his playing partners to enable his wife Suzi Lawton to
win here at Pattaya Country Club? Each handed a beer at 9am on the first tee
and Chad and Jack could only muster 2 points each after three holes, and by
the turn they only had 23 between them, whilst Suzi had a very solid 18.
Later in the day John was unavailable for comment (sorry,
was unable to comment) on his wife’s win with 36 points and neither could he
explain his exceptional, nay stunning 20 points on the back nine to take
second with 35.
Alan Pearce took third with 33 from Paul Smets with the
same score and there were no ‘2’s.
1st Suzi Lawton (17) 36pts

Wednesday, Sept. 1, The Emerald - Stableford
There were 16 Outbackers at this little gem of a course,
with some exceptionally better than average scoring, all but three players
(in the tournament) with 32 points or more.
Mark McDonald led the way, winning Div A with his
excellent one under gross score of 40 points from Bruce Milner second with
37. The ‘Sugarman’ followed up his runaway win at Green Valley on Monday
with another win here on 39 points from the other Bruce, this time McAdam,
who beat Barry McIntosh on count-back, both with 36.
There were only two ‘2’s from Paul Greenaway & Sugar Ray
Div A (0-15)
1st Mark McDonald (3) 40pts
2nd Bruce Milner (12) 37pts
Div B (16+)

Friday, Sept. 3, Green Valley – Decanter (Day 1)
To celebrate the third anniversary of the Outback Golf
Bar, the 2-day Decanter Trophy competition started today at the lovely Green
Valley. The previous two competitions had both been at Burapha but it was
felt that this year it should be staged at courses where those wanted to
walk, could. As well as the overall 2-day competition there is a separate
competition on each day. The second day was on Tuesday, September 7 at
Pattaya Country Club.
On arriving at Green Valley we were met by many other
golfers either playing at Green Valley or St Andrews, but with a two tee
start (1st and 6th) we were away on time without any disruptions and our
congratulations go to the management for organising that so aptly.
Forty-six Outbackers kicked off in wet conditions
underfoot but apart from a couple of sharp showers, play went on
uninterrupted, although it was somewhat humid. The greens were fine but the
bunkers left a lot to be desired.
The leader in the clubhouse was John Stafford (20) with a
net 69, winner also of Div C for the day, followed by two players on 71,
John Helm and Steve Milne, with four more one stroke further back, El Suggs,
Paul Bourke, Jack Moseley and Andy Butterworth (Div A winner).
Ken Price won Div B with a net 71 but only entered the
one day tournament.
There were 35 players going forward to Tuesday but with
the cut being made at 76, only 17 players had a chance to win the Decanter.
The remaining 18 players had their day one scores converted to stableford
and they (the scores) would be added to their stableford score on Tuesday.
The ‘Roo Cup’ was also up for grabs as the Scottish duo
of Mark McDonald & Ian Heddle challenged the northern Brit holders of Steve
Milne and Andy Butterworth, resulting in a win for the holders 2 & 1. Mark
said afterwards, “They’re a tough pairing and will be hard for anyone to
beat; Ian and me were 7 under”.
There were five ‘2’s coming from Andy Butterworth, Ian
Heddle, Paul Young and Mark McDonald had 2.
The Outback also put up four near pin prizes won by Steve
Milne, Larry Immenthun and Mark McDonald got two of those as well.
Sad story of the day! Three Outbackers, Rosco, Muzza and
Pottsy were due to fly to Phuket later in the day so arranged for an early
tee time; two entered the competition and one did not! One of the three had
the round of his life, guess who? Next time Pottsy!!

It’s the ‘Donkey Derby’
PSC golf from Lewiinski’s
Sunday, August 29, Green
Valley - Stableford
A Flight
1st Colin Davis (15) 39pts
2nd Jim Brackett (8) 38pts
B Flight
1st Jez Lees (16) 38pts
2nd Peter Henshaw (18) 37pts
Near Pins: #4 Mike Craighead, #9 Gerry Power, #12 Jez Lees, #16 Mike
Craighead
There seems to be a mystery bug affecting Lewiinski’s
that lasts about 24 hours. Last week it was Pierre, this week it was the
Donkey, who rang the scribe to ask if he would drive the minibus as he was a
little bit under the weather. Then made a miraculous recovery, decided to
play and then posted the day’s top score for the A Flight and man of the
match honours.

Colin ‘The Donkey’ Davis.
Big Jim Brackett, always a picture of health, pushed the
Donkey all the way, but came up a shot short. However he had the
satisfaction of adding a brace of ‘2’s to his winnings.
It was just as tight in B Flight as Jez the Principal
Lees fashioned a solid 38 points and held his nerve to take top spot, over
Peter ‘Don O’Corleone’ Henshaw whose 37 points denied Eddy the ‘Eagle’ a
podium spot.
Gerry Power played his first game for 18 months to post a
‘2’, along with Jum Karagit and Geoff Doody. Frank Pilkington also made a
long awaited return to the fold.
Tuesday, August 31, St. Andrews - Stableford
1st Colin Davis (15) 39pts
2nd Walter Baelch (18) 38pts
Everyone knows that the biggest benefit of the low season
is the girls pay attention to us residents. Running a close second is the
opportunity to play Pattaya’s signature course, Desmond Muirhead’s St.
Andrews.
The Donkey took up the challenge to put together the same
score as Sunday; just enough for the day’s top card and make it two
victories on the trot.
The colorful Walter Baelch gained a count-back decision
for second, over Peter ‘Don O’Corleone’ Henshaw as both came up a shot shy.
This was Peter’s second consecutive runner up spot, however he did pocket
the ‘2’s pot all to himself for a little compensation.
Wednesday,
September 1,
Treasure Hill - Stableford
1st Bob Newell (7) 38pts
2nd Sonny Crawford (9) 37pts
Having been on the injured list and completing a bike
trip around Thailand for approximately six weeks, Bob ‘Seamless’ Newell took
this opportunity to make his return to golf.
Well the bike ride seems to have cleared things up, as
‘Seamless’ put together a man of the match 39 points to edge the ever
popular Sonny Crawford by a single stroke. Sunny did however slot home the
only ‘2’ of the day.
What’s with this sick or injured thing!
Friday, September 3, Greenwood - Stableford

A and B nines at the tough Wolveridge and Thomson
designed Greenwood awaited the Lewiinski’s mob today, which saw a reverse of
Sunday’s game at Green Valley.
Big Jim Brackett gained a count-back victory over Colin
‘The Donkey’ Davis today as both carded 38 points apiece. Peter ‘Don
O’Corleone’ Henshaw, never far from the podium, posted a solid even par
round to fill out the podium.
Interestingly, Big Jim Brackett slotted home a brace of
‘2’s for the second time this week.
