The Pattaya Food & Hotelier Expo 2010 will take place at the PEACH Convention Centre, Royal Cliff Beach Resort from August 5-7. The Expo will attract the best hospitality personnel from far and wide and visitors are invited to come and watch the famous international chefs compete against each other for the Pattaya City Culinary Cup 2010. Meanwhile, the finest bartenders will come to life in the Battle of the Bartenders competition. Also enhancing the event will be the Pattaya Food on the Beach Show 2010 (evening program) with more than 80 famous restaurants in Pattaya & the east coast presenting their own delicious food along Pattaya beachfront. The 2nd Pattaya International Fireworks Festival & Contest will be held on Saturday, August 14 to mark the auspicious occasion of Her Majesty the Queen’s 78th birthday on August 12. The display and contest will take place close to Soi 4 on Pattaya Beach Road and will be put together by firework specialists from 11 countries. On the occasion of Her Majesty the Queen’s birthday, the Amari Orchid Pattaya, in conjunction with the Royal Project and Central Center Pattaya, proudly present the world’s longest Passion Fruit Sacher Cake at 78 meters (fresh passion fruit from the Royal Project). The Pattaya International Ladies Club (PILC) will be holding their annual Holiday Bazaar at the Royal Cliff Beach Resort Pattaya on Saturday, October 2. This event gives PILC members and the public a chance to meet up, either sell or buy an array of goods from silverware, to jewelry, to local handicrafts, to food and wine, and to help the PILC collect money to support the local community. The next meeting of Pattaya City Expats Club (PCEC) will be on Sunday, August 8. Everyone is warmly welcome. The Club meets every Sunday morning at The Tavern by the Sea (formerly Henry J. Bean’s) located on the north end of Beach Road (part of the Amari Orchid Resort). The program starts as usual at 10:30 a.m. with a buffet breakfast available from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Each week the PCEC usually has an interesting speaker to talk on various subjects of interest in an informal setting. This week’s scheduled speaker will be John Collingbourne. John is with the Pattaya Auction House and will be describing how the auctions are conducted. This program is followed by the ever lively and often humorous Open Forum where questions are asked and answers given about living in Pattaya as well as an update on events in and around Pattaya. For the past 28 years the Samaritans of Thailand have been providing confidential crisis intervention services over the telephone. The English-speaking unit, Samaritans English Help Line operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide support to the expatriate community. English-speaking staff, trained in crisis intervention will provide active, non-judgmental and empathetic listening services on the phone.
