With its constant mission not to rest on its laurels, Dusit
Thani Pattaya has been celebrating its achievements for a job well done
to merit the recognition of important figures such as Mayor Itthiphol
Kunplome. Mayor Kunplome awarded the five-star hotel the plaque of
Outstanding Hotel with the acknowledgment attributed Dusit Thani
Pattaya’s overall profile including its location, convenience,
cleanliness and comfort.
Pattaya has lately had its share of the health concerns reported in the
media and has continuously collaborated with government agencies and
health officials to make the city a safe place to visit. For its part,
Dusit Thani Pattaya has made sure that the safety of its guests always
comes first and foremost. Hats off to its housekeeping team that
painstakingly works for the utmost cleanliness of the hotel’s every
corner to make sure hygiene and sanitation standards are in top form.
Also of late, the management and staff of Dusit Thani Pattaya have
celebrated the Best Supplier Video Award presented during the Jumbo
Awards Night, one of the highlights in the recent Connections Plus 2009
MICE event organized by the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau.
More than 15 hotels from Bangkok, Pattaya and Krabi sent their entries
for the Best Supplier Video, a 30-second video commercial showcasing the
best of their hotel. The Dusit Thani Pattaya cast and crew wasted no
time in telling the MICE planners and buyers what their hotel has to
offer to ensure a most enjoyable, pleasant and successful event … and
they certainly did so in a most special winning way eventually besting
all the other hotels in bringing home the Best Supplier Video Award!

Bangkok Airways & Samui Airport ranked in the World’s Top Ten

Samui Airport
Samui Airport was announced as being in the world’s top ten in the “Best
Airports Worldwide” category for the 4th consecutive year whilst Bangkok
Airways is ranked in the top ten in the “Best Cabin Service Worldwide”
category following an annual “Best Asian Travel Brand 2009” poll
surveyed by one of Asia’s forefront online travel magazine, Smart Travel
Asia.
Samui Airport, the only regional airport on the list, sees over 6
million passengers and more than 15,000 flights per year mainly by
Bangkok Airways and other airlines such as Thai Airways International.
Samui Airport serves domestic and international direct flights to and
from Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi, Chiang Mai, Pattaya (U-Tapao), Krabi,
Singapore, Hong Kong, Penang and Kuala Lumpur.
For Bangkok Airways, being included in the top ten in the “Best Cabin
Service Worldwide” category is another achievement this year after
breaking the record with repeated success in winning the annual
assessment of the Skytrax World Airline Award as the “Best Regional
Airline” six times in a row since 2004.

Bangkok stopover tours surge
Sirima Eamtako,

The number of stopover passengers at Suvarnabhumi Airport taking short tours of
Bangkok and its vicinity is expected to hit 1,000 per month this high season,
starting October, according to the Association of Thai Travel Agents (ATTA).
About 700 transit tourists took the ATTA-operated tours in August, representing
a 26 percent increase in revenue and a 15 percent increase in passenger numbers
compared to July, said ATTA vice president Sumet Kriengchaiyaprug.
Transfer passengers making a six- to 12-hour stopover have been able to sign up
for the short visa-free tour since June 1.
Sumet said India, Australia and South Korea were the top three markets in June
and July while Japanese tourists had increased substantially and represented the
second highest number in August.
Suvarnabhumi Airport receives around 4,000 transit passengers a day or three
million a year.
Suvarnabhumi eyes top-10 status

Airports of Thailand (AoT) will continue its efforts to drive Suvarnabhumi
Airport into the list of the world’s top 10 best airports this year.
Speaking at the international symposium, “Path to be Regional Hub”, to mark the
authority’s 30th anniversary, AoT president Serirat Prasutanont cited the
Geneva-based Airports Council International’s 19th-place ranking of the Bangkok
airport in the first quarter of this year, up from 28th last year and 40th in
2007.
Serirat said the process of enhancing facilities and services at three of AoT’s
six operating airports would help it achieve this goal.
Suvarnabhumi Airport will enter a second phase of development in 2010/2011. The
six-year project will boost the airport’s capacity from 45 million passengers a
year to 80 million passengers.
Meanwhile, Don Muang Airport is set to be transformed into an aircraft
maintenance centre while the five-year expansion of Phuket Airport, slated for
completion in 2013, is expected to bring its handling capacity to 12.5 million
passengers a year, from 6.5 million.
THAI undergoes
reshuffle, restructure
In a move that surprised many but was expected by some, Thai Airways
International’s (THAI) board of directors appointed a new commercial department
head for the airline.
Effective immediately last Friday, the airline’s managing director - cargo and
commercial mail executive Pruet Boobphakam was tasked to double up as executive
vice president - commercial.
Pruet replaced Pandit Chanapai, who has been appointed executive vice president
for human resources planning and development.
According to the airline’s press office, the reshuffle only involves the top
post and there will be no further changes to the internal structure of the
commercial department.
Sources said the move may have been caused by internal political issues amid the
carrier’s attempts to survive these tough times.
The THAI board also approved in principle a restructure of the corporate
strategy and planning department. (TTG Asia)
