Miton Special Situations Fund tops Balanced Fund Segment in
‘Moneywise’ 2009 Pension Awards
Miton Special Situations Portfolio has been judged the best Balanced Managed
Fund in 2009 by leading online financial newsletter ‘Moneywise’ in its
annual Pension Awards.
The authoritative magazine noted that the balanced fund category is “well
suited for pension savers because it invests in a spread of assets, with no
more than 85% in equities and at least 10% in UK equities, making it less
volatile.”
Nick McBreen, IFA at Worldwide Financial Planning, Pearson, and member of
the judging panel, paid tribute to fund manager Martin Gray “who has managed
the fund for 18 years, steering it through good and bad times, and therefore
(he) knows it very well.”
The fund achieved a 12 month return of 11.13%, a three year return of
23.18%, and a five year return of 79.59%.
“While delivering excellent returns, the clever point about this fund is
that it takes a view on trying to reduce volatility, rather than trying to
consistently shoot the lights out by outperforming against its competitors,”
said McBreen.
The award adds to the Thompson Reuters Award for the best 5 year performance
won by Martin Gray and the Miton Special Situations Fund earlier this year.
This followed the fund achieving an annualized return of 8% over the five
year period, well ahead of the average Balanced Managed Fund performance of
2.4% for the same period.
Paul Gambles, managing director of MBMG International who have represented
Miton Asset Management in Thailand for 11 years, said Martin Gray’s emphasis
on minimizing downside risk was a key factor in the funds continuing strong
performance.
“It is no surprise to us that Martin has once again been recognized for his
outstanding performance as a leading fund manager,” said Gambles. “His
ability to achieve returns ahead of the market by actively managing assets
was one of the critical factors why we selected Miton as the cornerstone
portfolio manager for our clients. This will simply add to the extensive
list of industry awards Martin has won in the last 10 years and growing
recognition of his place as one of the leading fund managers in the world.”
Hotel Vista celebrates grand opening

Although it opened its doors more than six months ago, Pattaya’s Hotel
Vista is now “officially” accepting guests, celebrating its grand opening on
Pattaya Soi 4 near Beach Road.
Vivid
Vannaying, general manager of Hotel Vista Pattaya, shows off the “Club Vista”
card.
Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome and Philippines Ambassador Antonio V. Rodriguez were
among the guests at the 4-star resort’s grand opening party themed “The Spirit
of Life” Aug. 29. Attendees were given tours of the hotel’s deluxe and Vista
suites and enjoyed food and musical performances.
Vista General Manager Vivid Vannaying said the hotel is offering a low-season
promotion that cuts deluxe room prices in half. It expects most of its customers
to be Thais under 40 years old on vacation from Bangkok and is promoting the
property with new DVDs, he said.
The hotel also offers a “Club Vista” card, offering discounts at various tourist
attractions around Pattaya, including Nong Nooch Tropical Garden, Alcazar
cabaret show and various clubs and restaurants.
