The Jesters Care4Kids Charity Drive 2009 is urgently looking for people to donate their old books for the bookstall at this year’s Charity Drive Fair at the Diana Driving Range and Resort on Sunday, September 13.  Books can be dropped off at Tropical Bert’s on the corner of 2nd Road and Soi 6; Tahitian Queen Rock ‘n’ Roll Bar, corner of Soi 13 and Beach Road; Jameson’s next door to Nova Park, or the Pattaya Mail office.

The next Pattaya City Expats Club (PCEC) meeting will be on Sunday, Sept 13 and everyone is warmly welcome to attend.  The club meets every Sunday morning at Henry J. Bean’s Restaurant on the north end of Beach Road in the grounds of the Amari Orchid Resort.  The program starts as usual at 10:30 a.m. with a buffet breakfast available from 9:30 to 11 a.m.  Each week the PCEC has an interesting speaker to talk on various subjects of interest in an informal setting.  The scheduled speaker this week will be from Phaythai Sriracha Hospital talking about a health subject of interest to Expats. For the past 28 years the Samaritans of Thailand have been providing confidential crisis intervention services over the telephone. The English-speaking unit, Samaritans English Help Line operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide support to the expatriate community. English-speaking staff, trained in crisis intervention will provide active, non-judgmental and empathetic listening services on the phone. The Royal British Legion meets at Tropical Bert’s, 2nd Road opposite the Bangkok Bank every Sunday from 2 p.m.  You do not have to have served in the UK armed forces to join but you must agree to the principles of the Legion.  For more details phone Bert on 089 807 2335.

Events

The next Luncheon of Skål International Pattaya & East Thailand will take place on Thursday, September 17 at the Siam Bayshore Hotel Pattaya. The guest speaker for the event will be Patcha­reeboon Sakulpitakphon the program officer of ECPAT (End Child Prostitution and Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes). The board meeting will begin at 11 a.m. and will take place at the Chang Noi Meeting Room. The Skål Luncheon will commence at 12 o’clock (noon) at the Siam Elephant Restaurant and the price for the luncheon per member and guest is 500 baht net per person, which includes the soft drinks. Dr. Giuseppe Mario Saccone, a lecturer from Asian University, will hold a special talk at the North Star Library in Pattaya on September 24 starting at 3 p.m.  The topic for this month will be “The Art of Rhetoric” in which a variety of means of persuasion, including self-presentation, manipulation of the audience, emotional appeals and the use of figures of speech will be covered.  Admission to the talk is free of charge and a coffee break will be provided.  Call 038-716-755 or sign up at the reception.
