Calling themselves just local fishermen and workers at local businesses, blue clad “warriors” attempt to stem the red tide from ruining the ASEAN Summit at PEACH.

Charity Club of Pattaya undertakes new projects

Christina Boden
Clean drinking
water project

While we were visiting our projects, we were rather shocked at the state of the water the children were drinking, so we are currently pricing up a project so that five local villages in the Krasang area can come along and obtain clean fresh drinking water.

Site for the drinking water.
This will be located in a Wat local to all five villages. The cost we believe will be around 86,000 baht. We will be raising funds for this project at the next charity event on April 21st at the Caddy Shack.

New children

Waranut is 15 years old and very withdrawn; she does not attend school and just sits as you see her in the photo. Waranut is one of seven children. When her father died of cancer the mother left, some of the children have gone to Bangkok but Waranut and her 13-year-old brother, Somsak, stayed at the house.
Waranut is in a wheelchair, and is very weak and needs help getting in and out of the wheelchair.
Her brother attends school now and again but as he is the main carer, he has been neglecting his studies. The school says when he is attending he is a good student.
Waranut is sometimes incontinent, but we suspect that this is because she can’t get to the toilet in time or she is on her own with no one to help her.

Waranut Bontong is 15 years old.
The club has built her a toilet with a concrete path from the house to the new toilet, which has been built wider to accommodate the wheelchair.
We are now looking for somewhere that can help her with her walking etc.
We have also added Waranut and her brother on to our Isaan food programme. We are arranging for a neighbour to keep an eye on her during the day and give her a meal so that her brother can attend school.
We are also going to supply her with a Zimmer frame, which will also help getting into and out of her wheelchair, and onto the toilet safely.
We are arranging for her to see a doctor in Bangkok as the family is concerned that she has such a large head. The doctor will give her a thorough examination.

12-year-old Somporn and his 6-year-old sister.
We have spoken to the family in Bangkok about Somsak and they have agreed to take him if Waranut goes into a home. Somsak will then be able to attend school full time in Bangkok.
If both the children move away, the toilet will be used as a communal toilet by the village.

Somporn,
12 years old

Somporn is incredibly small for his age. He lives with his father and 6-year-old sister. The mother has left the husband and children and no one knows where she is. The father is a very good man and finds work at the temple and school when he can. They have nothing except the clothes they stand up in and live in the shack pictured. Neither of the children attends school.
The Wat has donated a piece of land to the family and an Austrian man is paying for a house to be constructed, which should be done in 20 days.

Toilet before.
The other problems the family has is that the boy has both male and female organs, so we are paying travel expenses for them to go to Bangkok along with Waranut to be examined by a doctor to see what can be done. The sister will also go and be examined, as they say she acts like a wild animal.
We have added this family to the food programme. We also gave Peter Rottmann, our Isaan representative 3,000 baht to buy a water container, dishes, cutlery, food, etc, as they had nothing at all. We have supplied them with some clothing and shoes.
When the house is complete we will buy garden equipment for the family to have a vegetable garden and if room have some fruit trees. Any surplus can be sold.

Flat pack structures

We have two of these structures at our disposal and we have discussed how best to use them.

Toilet after.
We are placing one tent in the same Wat as the water project and when the villagers come for the water, they can use it as a community hall.
We will kit the inside with fans, toys, and mats so that the children can play in a clean and safe environment while the parents or grandparents can meet.
We are also considering asking if it would be possible for a doctor from Krasang Hospital to attend once a month and hold a health clinic.
Many of the villagers can’t afford to travel to see a doctor; if they agree, maybe we could section off part of the structure and create a small doctor’s surgery.
If the use of the community hall is a success, we may look at building a permanent structure in the future.
The second structure may be used as a temporary classroom/bedroom for 100 Autistic children in the Isaan area. We are waiting on more information about the new home and classroom that is needed. We know that a good-hearted police officer has donated a large plot of land for the project.
When the building is finished, we will help with the furnishings, etc.

House Somporn and his family are living in now.

Broadway tunes serenade diners

Vimolrat Singnikorn
Stirring notes from Broadway musicals soared at La Dolce Vita Restaurant when opera singers entertained diners to “A Nite on Broadway”.

Paravee Sombutsiri sings one of her favorite tunes.
On April 4 the restaurant pleased customers with three famous singers, Paravee Sombutstri, Danielle Meo and Saran Suebsatiwongse, who sang to accompany good Italian food, as good music usually does at the restaurant.
This time professional singers sang beautiful old tunes like Summertime, Over the rainbow and I love you Porgy.
Danielle Meo’s repertoire included Adelaide’s lament, Tell me on a Sunday, Maybe this time and A cock-eyed optimist.
Saran Suebsantiwongse wooed with I have dreamed, If I love you and Some enchanted evening, which described rather well that evening.
The next program will be on April 25 featuring Dido and Aeneas by Henry Purcell (1659), based on the story of legendary Queen of Carthage Dido falling in love with Trojan refugee Aeneas when he and his crew are shipwrecked in Carthage. When Aenea has to leave for Rome, Dido cannot live without him and awaits death.
La Dolce Vita is located on 500/141 Soi 18, Naklua Road in Naklua – Banglamung. The contact number is 038-488838 or visit www. ladolcevitapattaya.com or email info@ladolcevita pattaya.com

“A playground of dreams” was the title of the Spring/Summer fashion collection from MNG by the Mango fashion house that was shown by 14 supermodels at Central Pattaya Beach shopping center last week.
The graceful supermodels showed off the collection in front of the MNG by Mango store located on the first floor of the big shopping mall, attracting much admiration from spectators.
Guests at the catwalk included Mayor Itthipol Khunplome, Alisa Phanthusak, assistant managing director of Tiffany Show Pattaya, Saran Tantijamnan, general manager of Central Festival Pattaya Beach, and Assawin Reuanglertbut, president of Peppo Fashion Group.
Celebrities in the event included Chompoo Araya A Harget, Yo Yosawadee Hassadeevijit, Khem Rujira Chuaykuea, Marissa Anita, Odet Hendriett Jackomin, Erin Siriporn Yuktatat, Ice Apisada Krueakongka, Moutsy Benjawan Terdtoonkul, Organ Rasri Watcharapollamek and See Pitsinee Tanviboon.
A Playground of Dreams was inspired from modern fashion and nature, and the designs are sweetly feminine with a blend of city life while the men’s clothes are very masculine, blending with trends from the 80’s.
MNG by Mango came to Thailand from Spain in 1997 and currently has five branches in Bangkok with the newest one at Central Festival Pattaya Beach.
