Clubs & Associations

The next meeting of Pattaya City Expats Club (PCEC) will be on Sunday, February 8. The club meets every Sunday morning at Henry J. Bean’s Restaurant on the north end of Beach Road in the grounds of the Amari Orchid Resort. The program starts as usual at 10:30 a.m. with a buffet breakfast available from 9:30 to 11 a.m., everyone welcome. Each week the PCEC has an interesting speaker to talk on various subjects of interest in an informal setting. The program will be followed by the ever-lively and often humorous Open Forum and an update on the happenings in and around Pattaya. A full report appears each week in Pattaya Mail. For the past 28 years the Samaritans of Thailand have been providing confidential crisis intervention services over the telephone. The English-speaking unit, Samaritans English Help Line operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide support to the expatriate community. English-speaking staff, trained in crisis intervention will provide active, non-judgmental and empathetic listening services on the phone. Artist James Kennedy will be visiting Asian University on Wednesday, February 11 to talk about his work. James Kennedy is an Irish painter based in East Hampton, New York, where he works from the Surface Library Atelier + Gallery. His paintings are strongly rooted in landscape and draw strongly on the geography of his homeland in Northern Ireland. The talk will take place in the University’s media center starting at 1pm. Gallery Opium, in conjunction with Bangkok-based art critic Brian Curtin, presents an exhibition titled New Ecologies. This is the first of what is expected to become an annual exhibition and festival of visual arts and related events in Pattaya. The exhibition, which started on January 29, presents the contemporary works of a wide range of expatriate and local artists over a three-month season at the Sheraton Pattaya Resort. Also, starting on January 31 at the Gallery Opium, is an exhibition by Narong Wannasa titled Inspiration From My Friend’s Spirit. It is the Thai artist’s second solo exhibition and will display Wannasa’s imaginative and shape forming skills. The Burapa Motorcycle Club will be presenting its 12th Annual Pattaya Bike Week from February 12-14 at Soi Chaiyapruk Sports Stadium. This event is officially recognized and supported by the City of Pattaya and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and promises to be the best motorcycle & musical event ever held in South East Asia, attracting in the region of 35-50,000 people to the area over the three days. Nirvana Resort, in association with Burapa MC, will be hosting the official opening party on February 12 at Jomtien Beach Rd Soi 4. The event will involve some very well known names and faces from the world of music & entertainment and it’s sure to be the best Rock N Roll and Blues party ever held in Jomtien - and most of all it will be completely free and open to everyone. Proceeds from the party will be donated to the Camillian Social Centre in Rayong for children living with HIV/AIDS.
