Tourism arrivals plunge 20-30% following violence in Bangkok

The Tourism Authority of Thailand has stated that the political problems in Bangkok, with a State of Emergency announced by the government on September 1, have resulted in a sharp drop in tourism arrivals.
The director of TAT Central Region 3, Chonburi, Niti Kongkrut said that the immediate effect has been a fall of between 20 and 30 percent in the number of people visiting Thailand.
As the present time is the low season for tourism, there is as yet no indication from the main markets as to what will happen when the high season gets underway later this year.

The Lighthouse Club
shines again

On Friday, August 22, the Lighthouse Club (LHC) met in the new Shenanigans Jomtien. The event was co-hosted by the New Zealand Thai Chamber of Commerce. Simon Dutton was there with his new manager, Stewart, to make sure that all was well. The two main sponsors, Fisher & Paykel and Five Star Villas & Condos, were delighted with the event which saw more than 80 people attend.

The Dining Out Team was alerted to Tim’s Place a couple of months ago and we went round to see if it was as good as its reputation. There was only one thing wrong with that plan - the ever energetic roads department had decided to dig up Soi Chaiyapruek 1 in Jomtien (again!), and you needed an all-terrain vehicle to get there.
