Nong Nooch will stage Loy Krathong celebrations a day early

Nong Nooch Tropical Garden will hold its Loy Krathong celebrations before
everyone else, with November 4 scheduled as the festival day.
The announcement was made by Thongchai Sodorn, activities coordinator,
Withaya Sriyoothana, executive manager, and Yongpong Pianprasert, Bangkok
office manager, at a joint briefing on October 20.
Thongchai said that Nong Nooch, which stages a grand Loy Krathong festival
every year, will have a program of events between 6 p.m. and midnight on
November 4, one day before the actual festival date.
Thousands of lanterns will be released into the sky, and krathongs will be
floated out on the lake under the light of the full moon. Festivities
include performances by well-known singers Chantana Kitiyaphan and Suda
Chounban, there will be a light and sound show, and plenty of international
food will be available.
Nong Nooch Tropical Garden general manager Kwanwan Khantisuk said that this
year’s celebrations, being held in the auspicious year of His Majesty the
King’s 60th anniversary, will be on a particularly grand scale and Nong
Nooch decided to hold the event a day earlier to give more people the
opportunity to participate.
Training course for chefs focuses on fusion food

Mayor Niran Wattanasartsathorn was chairman on October 17 for the 3rd Chef
Career Development Training Project, or CCDT, held at A-One the Royal Cruise
Hotel Pattaya.
Deputy Mayor Verawat Khakhay also attended, and Suchart Dencheychai, president
of the Chefs’ Association of Pattaya City and East Coast was on hand to extend a
cordial welcome.
The Chefs’ Association had held its first CCDT on August 8, the intention being
to upgrade the skills of chefs in the region and ensure they are familiar with
international styles and trends. The latest CCDT focused on fusion cuisine.
Suchart said that the course was taught by chefs Vichit Mukura, Vilmen Liong and
Somsak Rarongkham, who took the chefs through techniques and recipes for Thai,
Asian and European fusion food styles.
The courses are to be held every second Tuesday of the month through to 8 May
next year, and the venues will change each time.
Prayer ceremony held for prominent Thai-Sikh volunteer

Although Shri Sardool Singh
Khanijou’s passing was mourned, his life was celebrated and his benevolence
honored during a Sikh prayer ceremony.

A Sikh prayer ceremony was held at the Sri Guru Singh Sabha Sikh Temple on
October 22 for Shri Sardool Singh Khanijou, a Thai-Sikh volunteer who passed
away on September 18 this year. The Sikh Club in Pattaya and the Volunteer
Public Welfare Association of Bangkok together presented an honorary
certificate to the deceased man’s family.

Shri Sardool Singh Khanijou had been a volunteer at the Social Welfare
Department for over 10 years. He had always attended all the Thai-Sikh Club
volunteer and Thai volunteer activities, even after the onset of heart
disease. He helped the disabled, the elderly and underprivileged people. For
most of his work he took care of the finances and donations, including
always taking care of all Thai and Thai Sikh volunteers. He was amongst the
volunteers who traveled to help those in trouble in the North, South, East
and Central regions of Thailand, helping in cases of flooding and fire, or
supporting the disabled and elderly, and distributing scholarships to help
youngsters receive a good education.
At the commemoration ceremony, Amrik Singh Kalra, president of the Thai-Sikh
Community in Pattaya, and Dr Puangploy Borirat, president of the Volunteer
Social Welfare of Bangkok Establishment, cooperatively presented an honorary
certificate to the family of Shri Sardool Singh Khanijou. His sons Prawit
Anansongvit and Suwit Anansongvit received the certificate on the family’s
behalf.
Cups are raised
for coffee house birthday

Coffee celebrated the second anniversary of its Second Road branch and welcomed
the arrival of year number three.

Welcoming guests at the premises in New Pattaya Plaza were owner Prakrong
Thammabut and her husband. Kritsanaruk Athithandoungdao, business development
manager of Ultimate Beverage Products Co. Ltd., the head office of 94O Coffee,
brought congratulatory flowers as did many other close friends and business
associates.
Prakrong said that much of their business depends on foreign tourists, and that
they are looking forward to the coming high season. The shop has recently added
a breakfast menu to attract more customers. Opening hours are from 8 a.m. to 12
midnight.
Funeral service held
for Sopa Hariraksaowanee
Noppadon Chaichana
Sopa Hariraksaowanee, Mayor Niran Wattanasartsathorn’s mother-in-law, passed
away on October 11 at the age of 75 years. Her funeral was held on October 16 at
Wat Chonglom in Naklua.

Leading the mourners was Sonthaya Khunplome, former advisor to the prime
minister, and amongst those attending were former Chonburi Governor Pisit
Ketphasook, Chonburi Deputy Governor Komsan Ekkachai, and head of Pattaya
Provincial Court Mrs Prathumpron Gamnordrit.
Sopa was born on February 14, 1931, the first-born child of Yos and Cheu
Saenggrajang. She married Tangseng Hariraksaowanee and the couple had eight
children. Their fourth daughter married Niran Wattanasartsathorn.
