The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT)
was registered as a new public company limited on Friday, June 24 after the
conversion of its status was approved by His Majesty the King and declared
in the Royal Gazette on Thursday.
EGAT’s governor, Kraisi Karnasuta said the authority
had been converted into ‘EGAT Public Company Limited’ ahead its earlier
scheduled date of July 1.
This enables EGAT to mobilize funds on the Stock Exchange
of Thailand (SET) by October.
On the cabinet-approved increase in the monthly salary of
the authority’s staff by 8-15% upon the conversion of the EGAT status, he
said the authority would attempt to accelerate the enforcement.
Kraisi said whether EGAT would raise funds on the SET in
October or not would depend on the investment sentiment of the market.
However, he was confident there would be no problem for
fund mobilization at that time. (TNA)
