FOL children enjoy a day at LCB1
Last November, management and staff at LCB1 made
arrangements to host children from the Fountain of Life Center in Pattaya.
The idea was to give them a great opportunity to learn, see and understand
more of the world than what they experience in their daily lives.
Upon
their arrival, GM Anil Singh and LCB1 staff greeted them with welcome drinks
and snacks, and gave them some brief information about the terminal.
Before embarking on the tour, the group enjoyed many
activities that the staff had prepared for them, including singing, dancing
and playing games. As can be seen on their faces, all of the children truly
enjoyed themselves.

Faces lit up with awe when the tour began, especially
when staff showed them the Gantry Cranes, huge pieces of equipment they
children were calling “Big Giant”! The children were also amazed by the
large mother vessel that was berthed at the terminal.

The children then enjoyed the opportunity to visit the
terminal where they could see the entire working process below.
When the tour was finished, the children were given the
chance to show off their artistic talents by drawing their impressions of
the facility on New Year Cards that had been prepared for them. LCB1 planned
to send the cards to all their customers, related companies and suppliers
around the world, complete with each child’s name and contact address.
By
now, surely hungry from all the fun they were having, LCB1 staff prepared a
sumptuous lunch in the canteen, which was followed by more activities before
the trip back to the Fountain of Life. Each was given a small gift to
remember their experience by.
The
kids sang a thank you song to LCB1 staff after enjoying a wonderful day in a
working environment. It was very gratifying for LCB1 staff to be able to
give time, effort, and attention to these economically challenged children
from the Fountain of Life.
FOL Children and LCB1 staff all gained something from of the experience.

St Andrews children enjoy football fun afternoon
Year 2 children from St Andrews visited the Regents
School to participate in an afternoon of Football fun! There were teams
represented from St Andrews, the Regents as well as GIS. There was a buzz of
excitement in the air - and not only from the children. Parents came and
joined in the atmosphere as they cheered and gave advice from the sidelines.
Here are some reports from St Andrews about their
fantastic afternoon.
By Mariko, Year 2
Year 2 went to ISR on the 22nd of March. When we got
there I was so excited because the football field was very big. And then GIS
came. Next ISR came out of their classes. I saw my Mum and Cara’s Mum.
There were lots of parents there. Some Mums brought some oranges.

We started the game the other team played first. The
other team was called the St Andrews Arrows. They were playing against ISR.
Henri, Cara, Adam, Gabriel, Yutung, Daniel, Abigail were in the Arrow team.
The Arrow team scored 4 goals. Henri scored 2 goals. Gabriel scored 1 goal
and Yu-tung scored 1 goal. Cara and Abigale were the only girls in Arrow
team. Cara and Abigale were trying very hard.
When the Arrow team finished playing football they had a
rest. They had water and orange juice to drink. It was my team’s time to
play against ISR. My team was called Super St Andrews. John, Kao, Math, Nat,
Robin, Tian, Dries and I were in this team. We scored two goals. When we
finished playing football, we shook hands with the other team.

We all had a fantastic afternoon because we had so much
fun. I didn’t really like playing football before. But now, I love it and
want to play again soon.
By Cara, Year 2
Year 2 went to ISR on the 22nd of March. We went on the
bus and when we got there I was very excited because the school was so big
and I did not know that they were so good at football. In the first game we
scored 4 goals. My mum was there.
Some people did not play but they still came and they
cheered for St Andrews. Our team was called the Arrows and the other team
was called Super St Andrews.
Everyone played very nicely. It was very hot. Some
parents brought oranges. We all enjoyed the day because we got to meet other
children from year 2 from different schools. We all had fun. We didn’t
worry about who won the games, we just wanted to play as a team and have
fun.
Thank you Mums, for cheering for St Andrews. You were very loud and we
could hear you when we were playing!
GE Aircraft Engines renovate school at Eastern Child Welfare Protection Institution in Rayong
Host Elfun’s Project in Thailand
This year GE Aircraft Engines volunteered to spearhead
the annual GE Elfun Project. The project was to renovate the 40-year-old
school building at the Eastern Child Welfare Protection Institution in
Rayong Province where there are approximately 300 children.
Participating
in the handling over ceremony of the school renovation project on March 20
in Rayong were (left to right & front to back): Wanlop Ploytabtim -
director general, Department of Social Development and Welfare, Stuart Dean
- president, GE Southeast Asia, Russell Mobley - managing director, MRAS,
and Dwight Thomas - managing director, GE Elano Asia.
This institute provides welfare assistant and protection
for both boys and girls aged between 7-18 years old who are orphaned,
neglected, lost, vagrant, destitute, have behavioral problems or are in need
of care. This school provides formal education at the primary level as well
as vocational training before releasing the children to the outside world.

The renovation took 3 months to complete and cost about
$16,000, with GE Elfun Volunteers spending approximately 1,640 labor hours
during the weekends. GE Elfun Volunteers contributed their weekends with the
belief that they would see big smiles from the children at the institute on
getting a better school environment. No one was disappointed.
The handling over ceremony of the building was organized
on March 20. There were over a hundred GE Elfun Volunteers from every GE
business in Thailand represented, as well as GE regional and in country
business leaders.
In addition to providing the students with a better place
to study, Environment Protection is also part of the theme for this event.
Both senior staff and other GE Volunteers planted over 30 trees in the
school area to help protect the environment.
GE Elfun also provided items for their daily living;
i.e., socks, slippers, towels, blankets, stationeries, used items, used
books and magazines that were donated and consolidated by GE Elfun members
from all business units of GE in Thailand.
GE Elano Asia & Middle River Aircraft Systems,
representing GE Aircraft Engines, every year leads the Cross Businesses
Elfun Project in Thailand. GE Elfun Thailand Chapter consists of hundreds of
GE Elfun volunteers from all existing GE businesses in Thailand. Every year
there is at least one big project that all members do together, and with
each GE business unit taking turns as the lead organizer of the project.
This year GE Aircraft Engines volunteered to spearhead the annual Elfun
Project. GE Elano Asia and MRAS worked in partnership from the beginning to
the end, with support from all the other GE businesses.
GE has a very strong presence in Rayong province where
there are 6 GE facilities located in this area, 2 from GE Aircraft Engines,
2 from GE Advance Materials, 1 from GE Energy and another one from GE
Infrastructure.
A lot of activities between GE Elfun Volunteers and the children were
organized during the day, concluding with lunch in the canteen where
volunteers had a chance to spend time with the children. The event ended
with the big smiles from all, reminding us why we do Elfun volunteer work.
