The outgoing president of the Rotary Club of Jomtien-Pattaya, Bruno Keller and his wife Erika, organised a fellowship-party at the Art Cafe to say thank you to all the members and especially to members of the community who have worked hard throughout the years to help the underprivileged and the needy.

Two boys from School #9 receive a backpack appreciation gift from Ta and David Jeater, Mayor Pairat Suthithamrongsawat, Ju Wannasri and Erika and Bruno C. Keller.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Paul Harris fellow to Pattaya mayor Pairat Suthithamrongsawat.

Pairat Suthithamrongsawat being rewarded with an official Paul Harris Fellow pin by Bruno Keller, outgoing president of the Rotary Club of Jomtien-Pattaya, while Erika Keller shares the honorable moment.

Bruno Keller said, “Mayor Pairat works very hard to promote Pattaya and has put in tremendous effort to improve Pattaya’s image. Through his (Pairat’s) efforts, the city became cleaner, more secure and more beautiful”. Bruno continued saying, “The mayor has always supported the Rotary Club in all our charity programmes and we feel that he deserves one of Rotary’s highest honours for service to the community. This is a symbol of our thanks to a great man and a leader of this city.”

Thai tradition brought to life through a dance bringing forth smiles upon all.

The mayor thanked the club members in a moving speech and promised to further do his best to help the club and to work for improving the city even further.

Elfi Seitz executive editor of the Pattaya Blatt was also presented with a plaque of appreciation for her incessant help to the Rotary ideals and assistance in many of the club’s projects throughout the years.

Wannapa “Ju” Wannasri and Sopin “Noi” Thappajug are intrigued by Bruno Keller’s inspirational speech.

The fun-part of the event was the drawing of a picture in which all guests had to participate with a few strokes of the paintbrush followed by the next person, resulting in a very funny painting. The plan of the club is to auction it at one of the next events.

Students of Pattaya School No. 9 performed classical Thai music dances under the watchful eye of Wannapa ‘Ju’ Wanasiri from the education department of city hall.

David Jeater, incumbent president of the Rotary Club in Jomtien-Pattaya, expresses himself through the art of painting, connecting with appreciative onlookers as well as himself.

Mr. Tuxedo and his team entertained the guests with his unique magic show and the evening ended with a display of fireworks.

Cultural dance raptures worldly viewers enticing an ethnic experience.

Hard Rock hosts dinner for 40 elderly women

August 12th was Thailand’s national Mother’s Day and the ladies who reside at the Banglamung Home for the Elderly were treated to a festive dinner hosted by Hard Rock Hotel, Pattaya. Many residents of this home for the aged either have no families or are neglected through lack of interest by their relatives. But the Hard Rock didn’t forget them and arranged a delightful party to let them know they are still honored members of the community and there are many people who care for them.

Andrew Khoo, GM of the Hard Rock Hotel, personally showed his love and care for the elderly.

The hotel arranged a festive evening of fun and amicable interaction for 40 ladies from this government welfare facility. Delicious food and entertainment were organized under the theme of “Mother, you’re just an angel to me”.

The party was topped off with gifts presented to the ladies. But most appreciated by the women was the happy atmosphere provided by the staff of the Hard Rock who provided that basic human touch of love and warmth which is so often a missing element in the lives of residents.

A number of activities were arranged to make sure the party was a night to remember. A special screening of the Korean movie, ‘The Way Home’ depicting the struggle and life as a mother was presented. Afterwards the ladies showed their appreciation by putting together a charming skit for their hosts.


Diana Garden Resort welcomes vocational students

Khun Sopin Tappajug, the MD of Diana Group and her team welcomed 36 trainees from the Banglamung vocational college who came to the resort on a study tour to gather information for their college courses.

The aim of the tour was to observe the resorts renowned scheme and their operations, specifically providing facilities for the disabled, which is the first of its kind in Pattaya.

Students are taught the fine art of setting a dining table.

The residents at the resort are long stay guests as well as employees from the industrial estates nearby, who enjoy the quiet and peaceful surroundings of their home.

The Diana Garden Resort staff also gave a talk on basic knowledge in hotel management and the ex champion bartender demonstrated cocktail mixing before the tour ended.


Wedding Bells ring for Wichai and Pimpisa

The wedding between Mr. Wichai Nontapatsopon and Miss Pimpisa Kangsirikul, daughter of Mrs. Jureerat and Sunthorn Kangsirikul, the chairman of Walking Street was held at the Ambassador Jomtien Hotel. Many dignitaries including the mayor Pairat Suthithamrongsawat, Surapol Thiensuwan chief of Banglamung district, Pol Col Kamolchai Tienrungrot, Suthin Uitrakul chief judge of Chonburi court, and Anan Angkanapisan Commisionner of the department of prosecution region 2. Khun Anan gave blessings to the bride and groom with personal tips for a happy marriage.

He said that a marriage is like tongue and teeth. There will occasionally be times when the two shall conflict with each other, but the way to solve any conflict is to forgive each other and not take small things to heart. He said it is also important not to forget their parents for all they have done for them. Mr. Anan wished the couple a happy marriage, to be like a pair of chopsticks that must be together forever.


AFT-ERC provides physical checkups for Pattaya’s aged

As part of Mother’s Day in Thailand the Filipino expats in Pattaya, under the banner of the Association of Filipinos in Thailand, Eastern region chapter (AFT-ERC) provided physical examinations to 22 of the community’s aged population. Those joining in the physical checkups were primarily poorer members of the community over 60 years of age, known to have health problems but never before had the opportunity to receive such crucial medical examinations.

Neil Maniquiz, marketing representative for the International Department at the Bangkok Pattaya Hospital, was on hand to provide all the necessary assistance needed. Participants in the mother’s day project received a number of tests including a chest x-ray, blood sugar level test, cholesterol levels, a diabetes check and blood pressure levels. Those persons showing irregular results were given treatment and provided with medicine to deal with specific ailments.

The hospital provided the tests at a very special rate for the project and the AFT -ERC paid for all the requirements.

Following the physical examinations, the Filipino association treated the elderly group to a nutritious lunch. Virginia Sorensen president of the AFT - ERC said, “A show of compassion such as this displays the significance of looking after family members, whether close or extended and the importance of concerns towards health. I sincerely thank the sponsors who made the this exercise possible including World Gems, Friendship, Scandinavia Restaurant, Svien Halvorsrug, Filipino Expats and the Bangkok-Pattaya Hospital especially Dr. Prasan Stian- rapapongs who personally took care of the elderly.
