various sub-districts in Banglamung including Pattaya City, Nongprue, Pong,
Khao Maikeaw, Takhiantia, Nongplalai, Banglamung municipality, and Huay Yai
municipality, to receive an award as the ‘Most caring and loving
mothers’. Sopin Thappajug, Diana Group MD said, “The YWCA Bangkok-Pattaya
initiated this campaign in 1990 and organized it for six consecutive years.
Over the years 90 mothers were selected and presented with awards.

time, but this year we are very happy that we are able to carry on with this
tradition again.”
To qualify mothers must be over 50 years of age with an
excellent physical and mental condition. Also, they must be known to have
done humanitarian deeds for their families and others in society, such as
teaching good behavior, encouraging education and being proudly attached to
Thai heritage and the traditional courtesy.

association is exceedingly honored to receive the presence of HRH Princess
Somsawali on the day. The Princess will present certificates to the chosen
mothers.” This event is scheduled to take place on August 7th at
Tiffany’s Theater, Pattaya Second Road, beginning at 2:00 p.m. Pins of
appreciation will also be given to donors who contribute over 4,000 baht to
the association.

his tireless efforts over the past year.
Malcolm
Scorer, CEO of Watermark Capital hands over a cheque for 30,000 baht to
President Peter Smith, presodent of the Lions Club of Jomtien-Pattaya.
In what can only be described as a jovial and relaxed
meeting it was business as per usual. A review of recent activities included
the ‘Swimathon’ by the students from School of the Regents. Lions
members praised the students for their energetic enthusiasm and were
grateful for the 126,000 baht raised for the club’s main project, the
Nongphangkae community clinic. The clinic is in great need of renovation and
the Lions Club of Jomtien-Pattaya has made it their pet project.
However, the highlight of the evening was when honorary
member, Malcolm Scorer, CEO of Watermark Capital Management handed over a
check for 30,000 baht towards the club’s project. Malcolm also donated
100,000 baht out of his own pocket last year to support the club’s service
projects. Club members warmly thanked Malcolm for his continued support and
assured him that the funds will be channeled into the project.
As the evening came to a close, Lions Club members
thanked their charter president Paul Davies for his efforts in keeping this
relatively new club on track. On behalf of the members, Peter Smith
surprised Paul by presenting him with a plaque of appreciation for his time
in the president’s chair.
The Lions Club of Jomtien-Pattaya meets on the 2nd Wednesday of every
month at the Town in Town Hotel. For more details please telephone president
Peter Smith at 038 420 960-1.
Filipinos give lots of love to children

A visit to Baan Jing Jai Home for children in Soi Nern
Plubwarn off Sukhumvit Road usually puts big smiles on the children’s
faces. The Association of Filipinos in Thailand-Eastern Region Chapter (AFT-ERC)
led by Virginia Sorensen, paid a visit to the home and donated funds and
necessary goods such as food, daily products, toys, dolls, to the kids. The
association also presented 10,000 baht to the home after they organized the
“Music for Kids” event in June at Town in Town Hotel. The Baan Jing Jai
Home for children donation is one of the many projects that the AFT-ERC
include in their social support program.
Look at
all those teddy bears! Now the children will have something to cuddle.
Mabuhay, you lovely, kind hearted Filipinos
For the 45 children who currently live at the home, it is
a safe shelter for those who are at risk of HIV infection, prostitution, and
drug addiction. Caretakers give the youngsters care and love, build their
confidence, boost their spirits and try to prevent further misfortune in
their lives.
The children receive daily basic working skills such as
training for food preparation. They also attend swimming courses and join
community activities. The annual camp they attend also helps them practice
according to the teachings of Jesus Christ and is one of the promising
activities that will help the kids to return to a normal state of mind.
The program at the Baan Jing Jai is geared to help the children develop
healthy bodies, a good attitude about life, live peacefully with others and
enables them to grow into responsible adults. Anyone interested in making a
donation or volunteering help can telephone 038-420100 or fax 038-420021.

A magic evening with
Hanky Panky Toys
Elfi Seitz
Jack Monshouwer, the president and CEO of Hanky Panky
Toys whipped up a little magic of his own when he organized the ‘Magic
Garden Party” in his residence outside of Pattaya.
Plenty
of familiar faces showed up for the magic garden party.
Jack
Monshouwer and his lovely daughter Tjitra were most impressed by Louis Noll
(centre) and his team from the Mata Hari, who cast a magical spell on the
diners by their superb presenation of fine cuisine.
Jack invited the famous Dutch magicians Dennis Velberg,
Emiel Lensen and Lodewijk de Widt to perform at the Imperial Hotel in
Bangkok on their way to an international magic competition in Seoul.
Unfortunately this did not work out, so Jack invited the magicians to his
own home, where they could give a private performance for his friends and
business colleagues during a party.
Everything was lavishly prepared. The large garden around
the swimming pool shone in the glimmering light of many multicolored
candles. Louis Noll of the Mata Hari restaurant came personally to create a
magical meal for the guests. A band played, not really magic sounds, but
good music and many, many guests arrived.
Who did not arrive unfortunately - were the Dutch
magicians! They were stuck in the airport in Amsterdam. Even their magic
wands couldn’t get the airplane to start.
Instead, quick-thinking Jack invited two of the best
magicians in Thailand, Panjarat Chairattiwet of Black Tulip and Mr. Tuxedo.
On such short notice, this was nothing less than magic.
These two gentlemen entertained the delighted guests with
a magnificent performance and also made a warmhearted and generous donation
to Duangpratheep Foundation.
That was the principal reason for the party. This
organization, which is supported by Hanky Panky Toys, cares about the
interests, the health and the education for needy children from the Klong
Toey slum in Bangkok.
Naturally the many invited guests, who had enjoyed the delicious meal and
the outstanding wines, also made large contributions to the foundation. Jack
promised his friends at the end of the evening that he will bring the Dutch
magicians in October to Pattaya. This is something we can all look forward
to.
German Thai Chamber holds round table chill-out session
The German Thai Chamber of Commerce (GTCC) held another
networking ‘Stammtisch’ at the Moon River Pub in the Thai Garden Resort
last Friday evening. The atmosphere was suitably relaxed with many Bangkok
members attended to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the big
smoke.
Pathima
Krapinij and Janine Tillmans, have Rod Cummins under their spell.
(L-R)
Stefan Buerkle, Wilfried Trautwein,,Executive Vice President and chief
financial officer of Siemens, Ralph Kugler,Organisation executive director
of German language business magazines, Wolfgang E. Schmidt, GM
Thailand,Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar of Lufthansa, Stefanie Kage, 1st
Secretary Economic Affairs of the German Embasy and Frank Delano, executive
director of German language business magazines.
Stefan Beurkle was decidedly relaxed opting out of
performing his traditional duties speaking on behalf of the Chamber but
instead allowed members and guest to partake in the cool beer and the buffet
put on by the Moon River Pub.
New faces in the German crowd were Aussies, Nick and Rod
from JVK International Movers. Hans from the Paradise Restaurant was roving
about while hosts GM Rene Pisters, Janine Tillmans, Guest Service manager
and Pathima Krapinij, sales manager were busy mingling and taking care of
guests’ needs.
And what of business? Well, under the guise of food and drink, it more or
less appeared to be put on the back burner, as it was more of an intimate
social gathering. The gathering was quite different from the traditional
Stammtisch networking nights in the past, but very successful and extremely
cordial.
