Studio Cafe melds classic concepts with a modern touch
By Brendan Richards
The latest addition to the restaurant and cafe scene is
the Studio Cafe. Located in the up and coming area of Jomtien, the cafe
caters to couples, classic movies lovers and music enthusiast alike.
Plenty
of guests at the grand opening.
The grand opening last Friday evening was whiz-bang deal
with the majority of guests already members of the Pattaya City Expats Club.
The proprietor, Dave said, “Most people start out
owning a bar and end up teaching English. I’ve done just the opposite.”
“We want to make this a place where you can bring your
wife and relax and enjoy a meal. Once things are settled we’ll bring some
classic music, things like Frank Sinatra,” added Dave.
The Studio Cafe has certainly been set out in a classical
theme, with the gramophone next to the liquor cabinet and wine stand, and
the walls adorned with pictures of movies from days gone by. Dave said he
plans to begin serving evening meals and fully open the service apartments
above in the very near future.
“We’ll work into breakfast at a later stage and then
maybe the lunch crowd,” Dave commented.
For those not dining inside and wanting to relax, the Studio Cafe has an
outside bar with live music. Open daily from early evening, it’s well
worth a visit for a change in style and atmosphere from the rest of the bars
and restaurants around town - a merger of the past and present.
Jon’s birthday party turns into fellowship gathering for Rotarians
Jon Tellefsen, the ‘almost permanent’ treasurer of
the Rotary Club Jomtien Pattaya, recently celebrated his birthday. As usual
he didn’t just celebrate this occasion, but also organized a fellowship
party for all three Rotary Clubs in Pattaya to join him and at the same time
raise funds for charity.
Smiling
birthday boy Jon (back right) is smiling because he just got kissed by three
lovely cowgirls (from left) Elfi Seitz, Marlies Fritz and Erika Keller.
Many guests showed up and gathered around the swimming
pool of his housing area. Since Jon is originally from Norway, plenty of
delicious Norwegian salmon was served. Tasty fried chicken legs and many
salads rounded off the menu. Every guest was surely filled, not only with
joy but also with food, since Jon had prepared more than enough so than no
one went hungry. Drinks flowed, including a great selection of wines, beers,
whiskeys and soft drinks.
Bruno Keller, the president of the club made a toast in
honor of the birthday kid and mentioned how happy the club is to have a
member like Jon, who is not only generous but also very active in his work
at the club.
Bruno’s wife Erika, former president and former vice
governor of District 3340 was very smartly dressed like a pretty cowgirl.
She passed out typical American Stetsons and Rotary emblems to the other
guests as well, but not before she collected 500 baht for them - money which
will be added to the Rotary funds for charity work.
All three Rotary Clubs: Jomtien-Pattaya, Pattaya and Taksin-Pattaya
joined in the fun and the evening will be remembered in the years to come.
Bangkok Pattaya Hospital hosts seminar on the dangers of snoring
Ear, nose and throat specialist, Dr. Nucharat
Pruekburangosol conducted a seminar for local residents on the potential
dangers of snoring. The seminar drew interest from a large number of people
including snorers and their long-suffering partners.
Dr. Nucharat explained the reason behind snoring and
outlined methods of prevention and treatment. “Apart from the annoyance
factor, snoring can have detrimental effects of the health of the sufferer.
The effects of snoring have shown to reduce the oxygen intake of the patient
and thereby cutting off to the brain and potentially causing high blood
pressure in restricting the blood flow to the heart. Those who snore are at
risk of further complications due to the lack of blood flow and oxygen to
the brain.”
Further research in the cause and effect of snoring is
still underway as are methods of treatment. However, Bangkok Pattaya
Hospital is offering consultations for those who want to stop snoring
through careful analysis and a treatment plan.

Once again Chef Fredi had created an excellent menu with
a delightful mix of tastes and the impeccable service team ensured that
everyone enjoyed the evening.
The occasion just happened to coincide with the birthday
of David Martin, one of the management team at ICON Hotel and a member of
the PGF Committee.
After the usual good-humored banter and verbal
encouragement to “buy more” tickets for the draw the 50 prizes were
quickly dispatched to the lucky winners. Thanks must again be made to
“Honest Gems” for the donation of another sapphire and diamond ring as
the star prize. This time won by John Bryan who has donated it back for the
next event. Thanks too to Crystal World for the two delightful dragonfly and
Butterfly creations. The young Thai artist Chaiyo, who is to hold an
exhibition at the Icon Hotel on Thappraya Road from the 14th April also
kindly donated one of his pictures. Many Hotels and Restaurants were also
kind enough to make donations of vouchers and bottles of alcohol to the
draw.
The next sponsor-organized event for the PGF is a Disco Divas Revival
featuring Icon Showbar, Alcazar, Tiffany and Divas and Dudes at Boyz Boyz
Boyz on Monday 7th April from 23.00. 200 baht entry, one free drink and 100
baht to the PGF charities.
