Happy 18th Birthday Daisy

Daisy Vogt is 18 today! My, how the years have flown by. Nine years ago, when the Pattaya Mail was just a baby, nine-year-old Daisy was already contributing to the paper by writing Daisy’s Children’s Column. This was indeed a challenge for someone so young, finding items and stories of interest to the kids of our community.

Daisy is always "on the go". Happy Birthday Daisy!

In her early teens, Daisy took up windsurfing and excelled at the sport. She then contributed articles and pictures of ‘her favorite’ sport to the Pattaya Mail and was often seen presenting sports and children’s social programs on the Pattaya Mail television channel.

The years flew even faster still, for Daisy is now attending her first year at ABAC University. That still could not keep her away from the Pattaya Mail, for she regularly contributes articles and even proves her linguistic skills by translating news and editorials for us. That would certainly be good training as her parents Michael and Marion have now become a big part of the Chiangmai Mail team.

We wonder sometimes how she does all that, when college life is so tough? With a smile and a glimmer in her eye that would melt any young man’s heart she says, "I study hard and I play hard, and then I do work for the paper. That is living life to the fullest. I hate having to sit around doing nothing." And so she does, keeping as busy as a bee.

Daisy is a highly motivated and dedicated worker in studies and in sports. In actuality in everything she does. Looking back on all those years watching her grow from a sweet little nine year old to tall and beautiful princess, full of energy and a zest for life, we can say that we are very proud of her.

Thank you for your support. You have made your parents and your family very proud.

We are confident that you will excel in your studies and one day make a great name for yourself in the field of marketing or in anything you choose to do that your heart desires.

On this, your 18th birthday, we give you these best wishes:

Life is as good as You want it to be… Put your aims high, treasure your family and friends, reach for the stars and they will shine down on you! Have a most wonderful Day! From all of us at the Pattaya Mail.

There is a great need to adapt a standard Braille system in Thailand

Experts invited to standardize the system

The headmistress of the Redemptorist School for the Blind, Aurora Sribuapan said that there is a great need to unify and adapt a standard Braille system in Thailand.

Plian Daengwan, head of the Chonburi Social Welfare Department presided over the seminar.

Aurora said at present there are many schools for the blind in Thailand operated by either the government or private sectors. However, each school and institution is using a different Braille system for Thai language, English and mathematics. Lack of coordination and standardization is producing fractured methods of teaching and these individual systems are distorting original Braille.

Aurora Sribuapan, the headmistress of the Redemptorist School for the Blind, said that there is a great need to unify and adapt a standard Braille system in Thailand.

To address the matter, the Redemptorist School for the Blind organized a seminar on "Standardizing the Braille System". Attended by personnel from both the government and private sector, Plian Daengwan, head of the Chonburi Social Welfare Department presided over the seminar, held October 7 - 12 at the Redemptorist School for the Blind. The seminar was set up to address issues both theoretical and practical.

Wirat Sritulanont gave expert advice at the seminar.

At the conclusion of the seminar, organizers invited experts from the government and private sectors to discuss the future of Braille in Thailand and how best to standardize a system in order to bring it up to international standards.
