Record money raised in this
year’s Care 4 Kids Sponsored Bike Ride
by Paul Baker
We counted them out and sort-of counted them back in
again! Ninety-three (yes, 93) bike riders met at Henry J Beans at 8.00
a.m. on Saturday morning, September 16th to participate in the Third
Annual Jesters “Care 4 kids” Sponsored Bike Ride. This year the
numbers tripled, indicating that the event has the momentum to become an
annual fixture.

Jesters Care 4 Kids Sponsored Bike Ride. Photo JccG
The ride this year, around the Maprachan Reservoir was
an idyllic route with no hills. All shapes, sizes, sexes (we even had a
Kim) and ages were represented on the ride, and were even blessed with
idyllic weather.
The riders set off from HJB’s under Jester and police
escort at a slow controlled pace to ensure maximum safety and visibility
until Naklua. But once over those lights, the turbo’s kicked in. Bikes
aren’t meant to go that fast!
Jack
and Kim made it! Photo

Other than a couple of minor(ish) prangs, all the
riders made it back in, from the winning time of 1 hour 31 minutes and 20
seconds to the last time of three hours and 5 minutes. And that included a
stop off at the local. The net result: 470,000 baht raised for charity, 93
sore back-sides.

Pattaya students compete in the 18th
Annual Inter School Games
The finals of the annual Inter School athletic
competition involving all 10 of Pattaya’s city schools was held on
September 8th at the City School #7 athletic field.
A
gala parade kicked off the finals of the 2000 games
The games began on August 16th.
The annual athletic competition promoting athletic
competition and healthy activity has been held in Pattaya and
municipalities throughout the Kingdom since 1983.
Over 2,000 students competed in football, volleyball,
takraw, table tennis and running events, with both girls and boys
competing against each other in the different events.
Pattaya’s Mayor Pairat Suttithamrongsawat presided
over the opening ceremony for the final games as marching bands from each
school paraded on to the field. A full crowd of proud parents were in the
stands watching and cheering on the students.
PH3 Run 862
Run number 862 began at a very pretty spot in Phoenix
Country Club. There was a noticeably reduced number of hashers for this run.
Perhaps the problem was the hare - Glasshopper. I was
told that he had hared some of the worst runs in the history of the Pattaya
hash. Had the prospect of another abomination of a run kept loyal hashers
away? Were they too knackered to contemplate another Grasshopper disaster?
New shoes were christened and the hare described the run
as a pleasant country stroll! The hare started the run with a check in the
middle of the circle and the FRBs sped off followed by the usual stragglers
and then came Dr Pinkie, Compost Heap and his sidekick Screwdriver.
The run was a good length and took us through some
interesting terrain. Cow dung in abundance was provided by the weirdest
looking cows I have ever seen. Thorn bushes, paddy fields and some more
thorn bushes made the run interesting! Gooey mud and more thorns kept us
going ouch! Plenty of on on’s were shouted after the lecture from the GM -
Chicken Fellow on good team spirit! and looking after each other in the
field. Did you hear that Neville?
The route took us through some very long grass and some
interesting obstacles and more thorns!
A good run it was decided. Glasshopper redeemed himself
for now. Loyal hashers can return next Monday.
Chicken Fellow called the circle in the absence of our
bad RA Sir Airhead and announced that 3 hashers were missing, presumed
alive. The circle all looked at “bad man” Neville Fud Fr but his girl
was safely in.
Chicken Fellow said that it was only Dr Pinkie, Compost
Heap and Screwdriver that were missing and that no one gave a crap about
them anyway and so the fun continued.
The raffle was done by Ewok who was having a terrible
time getting her words out. The force was not with her tonight. The usual
selection of shirts, hats and condoms was won by girls.
The first to get the ice treatment was Glasshopper, who
was officially forgiven and his run was given a resounding thumbs up.
Boy George and Obe Wan were next on the ice; both were
celebrating their birthdays. Ewok gave her Jedi Knight a birthday cake and a
French stick. I thought that apple pies were in fashion these days, or is
that limited to the Americans? We all sang a hearty happy birthday to them
both.
Boy George was humiliated by his sister who told us all
about ‘Wor Derek’ which means (for those non speakers of the old English
dialect called Geordie) ‘Our Derek’ and his fetish for whipping little
girls’ bottoms with burning string. Anne declined to get her own back when
given the chance! Shame we like to see grown men cry.
The long suffering mother of Boy George was invited into
the circle but declined to comment on the life of her son.
Dr Pinkie and crew made it back and whinged about lack of
paper until it was pointed out that 73 hashers had made it in safely. They
were given a good butt chilling to shut them up.
The GM was in good song as he sang the ugly song for his
daughter Chicken Little who was returning to the U.K. - see you next year
Jane.
Down Downs for virgins, returnees and leavers which
passed without any excitement. Anniversaries for Fossil and Uncle Fester who
have 450 and 300 runs under their belts and Chicken Fellow who also has 450
runs.
The Hash s@#t was dealt with. Is Finny still the Hash
s@#t? Ah well he is from Belgium and must rate amongst the few famous
Belgians - Can you name 5?
Boy George was joined on ice by Anne Nicholson who bared
her bum and joined her brother on the ice - Good on you girl! Us British
women show the rest how to do it with style. Is she the first female hasher
to bare her bum on the ice? The GM Chicken Fellow serenaded Anne with a
tuneful rendition of Barnacle Bill. Don’t give up your day job! Whoops I
forgot you are a full time Dad for the Hash protege Chicken Nugget who keeps
us entertained.
It was my turn to get a name as all scribes have to have
a name. Thanks for the truly complimentary selection - Miss Tracker,
Teachers Pet, Miss Blobby, Michelin Girl... It took a Belgian to suggest
Naomi Campbell and so we added blind to their list of attributes when it was
pointed out that I was neither 6 ft tall or black, Beautiful? - certainly.
BHC suggested Twiggy which is what I have ended up with -
Thanks guys. Twiggy is an ancient old tart with saggy everything! It could
have been far worse if Sir Airhead had been in charge or if Needle Dick had
been suggesting names. He was conspicuous by his absence. Where were you
Needle Dick? Have you permanently lost your Hash S@#t hat? Or did you want
to avoid having me sit on your knee? The cold holy water was refreshing! And
I really needed some of the Hash doctor’s medicine to warm me up - only
someone knicked it! Was it returned to the good Doctor?
And so I continue to remove thorns from my butt and hope
to see you all at the Jesters fare on Saturday at the Amari where I will be
tattooing any part of anyone’s anatomy that they wish me to decorate and
hopefully to raise some cash for some very special little kids.

House of the Golden Coin takes four points
Pattaya Sports Club Friday Bowling League
For the second week in a row only one team managed to
win four points in the PSC Friday bowling league. The House of the Golden
Coin team, captained by Mio, with Udom bowling and using one blind, still
managed to sweep the Snowman team and move from fifth place into a tie for
third.
The first place team Lewiinski’s played the second
place team TQ 1 Bob and split the points at 2 to 2, preventing TQ 1 Bob
from gaining in the points count.
Best games of the day were bowled by Egon (Cafe
Kronborg) with a 205 and Mio (House of the Golden Coin) bowling a 201
game. Kran (Cafe Kronborg) knocked down the most pins of the day with a
547 series.

Pattaya ‘Bush’ Hash House Harriers Run
No. 1
Saturday 14th October 2000
For those people who like some challenge, there will be a
new style monthly run available from Sat. 14th Oct.
The actual run starts at approx. 3:30 p.m. and will
consist of a long and short trail. The duration of the long run will be 1 to
2 hrs but the choice of trail will be entirely up to the individual. We will
retain the normal ‘fun’ element of the traditional H3 so it will not be
a race.
After the run you can cool down in the swimming pool,
take a shower, etc., and enjoy the delicious food of Shenanigans (formally
Delaney’s) who are sponsoring the run.
As this is run No.1, a T-shirt will be available. For
more information and to ensure you will receive your T-shirt on the running
day, please contact: Johnny (Charlie Manson) tel. (038) 427024, 01-4558619
e-mail [email protected] or Tony tel. (038) 425891 (room 77).

In other week 9 action, Beer Put earned their share of
second place with a win over last place Devonshire. Rising Sun edged up
into the 2nd place tie by taking match and beer over Mick’s Place.
Palmer’s took match and beer from Cheers.
Ian still holds the league’s highest out to date,
138.
This week (22 Sep) sees Pleasure v Rising Sun, Mick’s
Place v Beer Put, Devonshire v Cheers, and Palmer’s v Yorkie.

To all PSC Members - Message from the
President
Dear Members,
Re: The Pattaya Sports Club Building Appeal
I have great pleasure in announcing that your Committee
has launched the above appeal to take effect from 1st October 2000 and
will run to 31st March 2001.
As you are no doubt aware approval was given at the
Annual General Meeting of the Club to purchase land and build an
administrative building and a budget was approved for this. We have now
purchased the land consisting of 144 square wah situated off Pattaya 3rd
Road adjacent to the Pattaya Golf Driving Range. Final plans are underway
for the construction of the building.
Over the 20 years the Club has been in operation we
have donated millions of baht to local charities and are continuing to do
so even while we have undertaken this large expenditure for our own land
and building. However, in order not to greatly deplete the Club’s cash
funds your Committee has taken the decision to launch this Building Appeal
to assist.
The Appeal:
1. The Club will accept pledges of donations on the
prescribed form at its offices on Soi Diana.
2. The Appeal will run for a period of 6 months to
allow for those who may wish to make monthly donations and most likely
coincide with the completion of the building.
3. As well as donations from individual members the
Club will greatly appreciate contributions from corporations and local
businesses.
4. All donors to the PSC Building Appeal will receive
recognition as follows:
4.1 Up to Baht 5,000 - certificate + receipt.
4.2 Baht 5,000 to Baht 10,000 - name inscribed on
honour roll in new building + certificate + receipt.
4.3 Baht 10,000 to Baht 25,000 - name in gold on
special honour roll in new building + certificate + receipt.
4.4 Baht 25,000 and over - individual plaque in new
building + certificate + receipt.
4.5 Donors of materials and services will also be
honoured in the new building.
4.6 All donors will be listed from time to time in the
Pattaya Mail (subject to your approval).
We commend this project to you and thank all donors in
advance for their generosity.

Stephen Beard aces the eighth at Sriracha
PSC TAGGS... golf from The Haven
Friday, September 15 - Sriracha International Golf Club
(Stableford)
1st: Malcolm Clare, 39 pts
2nd: Stephen Beard, 38 pts
3rd: Russell Finch, 37 pts
TAGGS Chairman Stephen Foster Beard scored 38 points
and finished second to Malcolm Claire in Friday’s Stableford competition
at Sriracha, but Stephen’s front nine total of 21 points included 5
points on the par 3 eighth hole. That’s the one where Mr. Beard hit a
5-wood 180 yards onto the green and into the hole. This was Stephen’s
first hole-in-one and he can be forgiven if he got a little excited. He
went double-double on the next two holes. Later, back at The Haven,
Stephen cracked open a fine bottle of single malt and treated his fellow
golfers to numerous free rounds.
Malcolm Clare came home with 22 points on the back nine
to win the competition with a total of thirty-nine points. “The
Snowman” is going have to get a new nickname. He didn’t have a single
“8” (or worse) on his card.
In third place was Russell Finch with 37 points.
Russell’s old nickname of “Pin High” has been retired at Russell’s
request. However, his preferred nickname of “Pin Eye” has been
disallowed, as one cannot choose one’s own nickname. Any suggestions
should be submitted to The Haven. Priority will be given to any names
entered by Bill Thompson.
Monday, September 11 - Phoenix Golf and Country Club
(Bogey)
1st: Hannu Kemila, 4 Up C/B
2nd: Paul Hartley, 4 Up
3rd: Malcolm Clare, 1 Up
Like many area golfers, Hannu Kemila is a member of a
local country club. In Hannu’s case the club is Phoenix, and whenever a
competition is scheduled for Phoenix, regardless of the venue, Hannu joins
the fun. This is a smart move for several reasons. First, it’s cheaper.
Second, he gets to play a competition on a course he knows intimately
well. The rest of us are like The Lost Tribe, wandering from course to
course, and praying for a decent caddy and hoping the speed of the greens
is not too different from the last place we played.
On Monday, September 11, TAGGS played a Bogey
competition on the Mountain/Ocean combo at Phoenix. Playing off seven,
Hannu won the contest with a score of four up. But it didn’t come easy.
Losing in a count back to Hannu was Paul Hartley. The count back was even
on the back nine, the back six, the back three, the back two, and the last
hole. At this point, the front nine gets involved and the back twelve is
counted. They were still even. Finally the count back went to the back
fifteen and Hannu was declared the winner.
Finishing at one up were Norman Brooks, Neville
Steward, and Malcolm Clare, with Malcolm taking third place in yet another
count back.
Wednesday, September 13 - Natural Park Hills (Better
Ball)
1st: George Jackson & Harry Riley, 61 net
2nd: Keith Fortt & Jeff McLaury, 63 net
3rd: Paul Hartley & Sandy McKee, 65 net
On one of the toughest courses in the neighborhood,
Natural Park Hills, George Jackson and Harry Riley shot a better ball
score of net eleven under par and won the TAGGS competition on Wednesday.
Playing together for the first time, their score of 61 brought George his
fourth 2000 TAGGS trophy in a pair’s competition and Harry his third.
Second place went to another first time pairing. Keith
Fortt and Jeff McLaury shot a 63, a score that would win most Better Ball
competitions at Natural Park Hills. Paul Hartley and Sandy McKee finished
third with a 65 net.
Swedish darts legend has fun in PSC
Monday Darts
The Great Stefan Lord, twice the World Champion of
professional dart players, dropped into Pattaya for some R&R with the
Little Lord, who had just won the Singapore Open. Unable to resist
temptation, they played in the match between the Pleasure Dome and the
Ding Dong teams, which made for one of those nights when serendipity
strikes again. Pleasure Dome managed to win the teams game, which leaves
them still undefeated in the first round, along with Country House.
PSC members who enjoy playing darts but are a bit rusty
should start some serious practicing for the members’ singles
tournaments, which are arranged as follows:
Sunday, Oct 15 - PSC Ladies Members Singles
Championship. 8:00 p.m. at Ding Dong Bar, Soi 17. Entry forms available
for Pattaya Sports Club Lady Members only.
Monday, Oct 16 - PSC Members Singles Championships for
men. 8:00 p.m. in Soi Post Office at the Londoner, Pleasure Dome and
Thistle.
Entry forms for both events will be available at all
the PSC Monday Dart venues and the PSC office in Soi Diana Inn. Phone
inquiries to Len Banfield (038) 420-432.
