Memories of the Pattaya
International Jazz Festival ‘96

The Catholics
A part of Thailand’s International Jazz Festival ‘96 was staged here in
Pattaya on the beach between Soi 3 and 5 last weekend.
More than 20 bands from around the world performed smokey blues,
creative fusion, pop and rap on three different stages from early
afternoon ‘till late night. A “cool” atmosphere was created by the
musicians and got Pattaya’s audience grooving. The colourful Tokyo Ska
Paradise Orchestra was one of the favourite bands, the Jonas Gwangwa
Ensemble from South Africa got you into the beat of real blues and the
Mad-in-Paris band shook with hip-hop and pop.
The Tourist Authority of Thailand (TAT) organised this grand festival to
honour His Majesty the King’s 50th Anniversary of His ascension to the
throne. The revenue from this event will be donated to the Chai Patthana
Foundation.
