City continues preparing to mitigate floods

Sanitation Engineering Department staffers clean out sand and debris from flood water drainage pipes at Bali Hai Pier, part of the city’s ongoing effort to mitigate flooding when the heaviest rains hit in September and November.

With rainy season about to kick into high gear, city workers cleared five drainage pipes at Bali Hai Pier, ensuring nothing blocks floodwaters from emptying into the sea.

Pattaya approves 56.1 million baht in supplementary spending

The Pattaya City Council approved spending of an additional 56 million baht for a list of nine projects dominated by roadworks, flood prevention, and waste collection.

Smoke, roadwork reduce traffic to crawl in Najomtien

A road crew that apparently cared only about its own needs brought traffic to a standstill on Sukhumvit Road in Najomtien by stopping a backhoe in one lane and burning grass to create blinding smoke.

Inflation will rise slightly after increasing civil service salaries

Thailand’s Commerce Ministry said last Friday a plan to increase civil servants’ salaries by 8 percent, expected to start in 2015, would impact inflation in the country only 0.05 percent, said Ampawan Pichalai, director of Commerce Ministry’s Trade Policy and Strategy Office.
