Dusit Thani Pattaya finds multicolored crabs in The Bay

Pattaya Mail Media Group Managing Director Peter Malhotra (center) cuts the ribbon to officially launch the new Crab Feast Fridays, watched by Executive Chef Alistair Carter (front left), Dr Iain Corness (front right), and (back row, left to right) F& B Manager Pansak Pornwisawaraksakul, Tanaphol Rodpinyo, associate director of sales, and Pin Krasang, director of catering.

Dr. Iain Corness
You will have to excuse the Dusit Thani Pattaya’s new Executive Chef Alistair Carter - he gets quite excited about multicolored crabs! Especially on Fridays!

The Bay restaurant at the Dusit Thani Pattaya was the venue chosen for the new Crab Feast Fridays, with the official ribbon cutting carried out with the appropriate scissor action and expertly snipped by the Pattaya Mail Media Group Managing Director Peter Malhotra, assisted by Dr. Iain (more used to surgical scissors).
Crab hues range from the French Green crabs, through to Brown, Blue (Singapore style) and the bright red of the Alaskan King variety. The crabs are offered as a buffet with both cold and hot live cooking stations in The Bay and outside on the terrace.
The buffet items include several Thai dishes (such as spicy and sour crab claw soup with Thai herbs) as well as European, and there are also many non-crab items so that even anyone allergic to crab has plenty to choose from (including Australian beef tenderloin with caramelized shallots and roasted sea bass with cherry tomato and asparagus).

There is even a fun item called Mini Pork Burger with Lobster Tail topped with Alistair’s “secret sauce”. “If I told you how I make it, I would have to kill you,” said Alistair semi-seriously!
Like all buffets, take your time and slowly take in the different items (three pages of them on the kitchen order sheet I spied).
Chef Alistair expressed strongly that this new Friday promotion is quite separate from the Dusit Thani’s Saturday night BBQ around the pool.
I do admit that I am very keen on Alaskan king crab and you can have these steamed at the Crab Station or cold from the Seafood Bar. I also enjoyed the flat omelet with crabmeat (Kai Jeow Live Station) and was tempted by two lovely ladies in the Pastry shop (desserts to die for) and had a crepe suzette and the Thai kanom khrok.
The Friday night Crab Feast is B. 850 ++ with one complimentary glass of wine or beer or B. 1449++ with free-flow wine, beer or soft drinks. The Bay opens at 6.30 p.m. and the Crab Feast continues till 10 p.m.
