Multi-cultural Garden International School held its annual Diwali night - packed with awesome-inspiring performances and sizzling curries.
The event, on October 30, started with a delicious variety of food provided by Spices Restaurant that included tikka masala and aloo gobi.
After the dinner the performances began with a shadow puppet play that showed the audience a small tableaux of the story behind Diwali, presented by the IB1s. This was followed by a classical Indian dance presented by four stunning divas dressed in traditional Indian attire. Then it was time for the Primary students to shine. After this vibrant performance came a group of gifted group of dancers from Year 10 who gave dazzling performance based on an Indian Bollywood song. Not only were the performances breath-taking, they showed the true spirit of being an international school, as students from different countries came together to celebrate this Indian festival.
The second half started with a fashion show from the Friends of Garden - special thanks to Ms Rashmi Raturi who managed to create vibrant and beautiful costumes for everyone. After them came another dance by the Primary students, followed by a dance from the IB students, who danced to an energetic Indian song. Then one of GIS’s most talented dancers, Yogesh, took to the stage and showed his superior dancing skills. The last two performances were exceptionally good - one by the IB2 girls who danced to two songs and then finally it was the turn of the GIS band, who presented a patriotic Indian song.
Thanks to all the IB students, Mr Martin and his team as well as Ms Lenz, Mr Ken and Ms Morris, along with all the people who helped put this show together. Special thanks to the show’s sponsors: Aditya Birla Group Thailand, Indorama Group Thailand, SRF Industries (Thailand), Universal Plus Co, Ltd and Lek Store.

Regents Science Week goes off with a bang

Studying the schematics.

In conjunction with the centenary of the death of Rudolph Diesel, Regents School Pattaya have had their best Science Week to date, raising awareness and getting students excited about the science that surrounds our everyday life!
From October 28th to the 1st November Regents dedicated a whole week to science, all things ‘Rudolph Diesel’ and the high compression diesel engine - one of which was kindly donated and presented by Todd Barber, the New Model Program Chief Engineer from Ford Thailand Manufacturing.

This class looked into the wider aspects of combustion including making colourful sparklers using metal salt
Secondary students took part in a wide range of challenges and lessons all themed around the diesel engine and its creator who died 100 years ago on the 29th September 1913 - under unknown circumstances. Even this detail was not overlooked with Year 12 Biology students taking on the challenge to measure contributory factors of decomposition!
Classes, ranging from years 7 to 12, looked into the wider aspects of combustion including the efficiency of different fuels, debating the ideal fuel for the future and making colourful sparklers using metal salts. Other classes produced and directed their own educational film on the improved efficiency of the diesel engine and even rebuilt their own model engine in a ‘real-life’ working scenario.

The Truck Pull

Teams from year 7 were given dedicated departmental roles of spares, parts and design and had to work as a team in a scenario not dissimilar to the Ford Factory in Rayong Province in producing the engine efficiently, precisely and on time!
Paul Press, Head of Science commented: “Science Week is all about getting the students excited about science and raising awareness! The integration of a theme such as the centenary of the death of Rudolph Diesel gave us the opportunity to show the students how science is everywhere and in everything we do. It also allows us to show students how it is applied in real-life working environments and will hopefully inspire the scientists of the future!”

Does it decompose faster out in the sun?

Throughout the week all of secondary were able to get involved with ICT students designing the ‘next’ Ford Mustang on Google Sketch, English students narrating the journey of a carbon atom leading to the final challenge of the week - ‘The Truck Pull’.
House teams gathered with anticipation to pull a Ford Ranger truck against the clock around the schools 800 meter Oval with a final team effort achieving an impressive 1 minute 56 seconds!
Principal Mike Walton commented: “The Regents School Pattaya not only provides excellent academic education but delivers broader learning experiences that excite our students. Science Week illustrates how we prepare our students for the working world, delivering creative and adaptable young adults who will love learning well after their graduation.”

You wouldn’t want to serve up this bucket of chicken - but it’s all done in the name of Science.
