Deputy Mayor Wutisak Rermkitkarn presided over the April 9 workshop
hosted by the Chonburi Public Health Department and the Pattaya and
Banglamung governments.
Department Director Dr. Samit Prasannakan, MD, and other health
officials lectured on guidelines relating to inspection of
food-production sources, monitoring of food sanitation, chemical
inspections and rules governing producers, distributors and retailers.
In addition, there was promotion of a
consumer-protection network for citizens to have an understanding of
choosing and consuming food, including health products and heath
services.
“The training is focused on increasing knowledge for citizens,
operators, community leaders and village public volunteers in Pattaya,
which attracts many tourists,” Samit explained. “Thus, prevention and
knowledge regarding the safety of consuming is an important issue that
will help build a strong international tourism image.”
He said officials are planning a campaign on food safety, products and
health services in Naklua and Pattaya markets to prevent the spread of
communicable diseases through water and food. The campaign will include
inspection of local businesses with the help of the Thai Food and Drug
Administration.
