Sixty women competing in the Miss Tourism World beauty pageant made their latest stop in Pattaya before heading to finals in Bangkok Dec. 16.
Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome, Central Festival Pattaya Beach General Manager Saran Tantijamnaj, and Viroj Tritraiphusit, general manager of World Gems near Walking Street welcomed the contestants and Suphanat Donjan, managing director of local promoter Media Empire Co., Dec. 6.
After first touring Ayutthaya, the contestants from England, Mexico, Nigeria, Ukraine, Russian and other countries visited World Gems before dining at Central Festival and enjoying Nong Nooch Tropical Garden.
First held in Malta with an aim to promote and highlight the tourism sector of the host countries, the overhauled pageant was bought last year by the private World Tourism Organization in the United Kingdom. The Thai venture is the new management’s first pageant.
Contestants arrived in Thailand Nov. 30 with plans to visit Ayutthaya, Bangkok, Hat Yai, Pattaya and Krabi to promote tourism to various destinations. The finals will be held Dec. 16 in Bangkok. The winner will receive 1 million baht cash and other prizes.

Miss Mexico, Miss Turkey and Miss Kazakhstan pose for a memorable photo.
