Wildfire emergency escalates at Khuan Khreng peat swamp

Firefighting teams, water trucks and helicopters are being deployed to battle the Khuan Khreng peat swamp wildfire in Nakhon Si Thammarat.

NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, Thailand – Deputy Minister of Interior Jeseth Thaiseth has urgently ordered personnel, firefighting equipment, and helicopter support to help control the wildfire in the Khuan Khreng peat swamp in Cha-uat district, Nakhon Si Thammarat province. The Deputy Minister has instructed the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation to urgently mobilize resources and coordinate with relevant agencies to strengthen firefighting operations.

The department deployed a forest firefighting vehicle, a 10,000-liter water truck, a light transport truck, and specialized personnel from the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Regional Center in Surat Thani for its initial response. Authorities also coordinated with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to dispatch helicopters for aerial firefighting support, scheduled to arrive in the affected area by Saturday evening.


The Deputy Minister directed all agencies to integrate available personnel and equipment and provide regular situation reports to assess if additional support is needed for the operation. He emphasized that the safety of operational staff and local residents remains the government’s highest priority.

Local agencies were also instructed to closely monitor the fire’s direction and immediately request additional resources, if needed, to quickly control the situation and minimize further impact on the public and surrounding natural resources. (NNT)
