TRANG, Sept 15 — Thailand’s southern province of Trang, currently hampered by severe downpours and flooding, has closed six waterfall attractions as a safety precaution, while Prachin Buri in the east is facing another round of flooding, which is affecting large numbers of villagers.

Forest Protection Unit head Somjade Suwannawong in Yan Ta Khao district’s Sai Roong Waterfall said the natural attraction is one of six wildlife conservation areas of the Ban Tad Mountains that have been temporary closed due to the heavy downpours.

The rains have continued for three days, raising the water levels in rivers and canals.

Mr Somjade said the rainfall led to the closure  of six waterfalls in the province to be briefly shut down as safety precautions as well.

Meanwhile flooding in the eastern province of Prachin Buri has again become a problem.

After the province was hit by a flash flood from Khao Yai National Park, the water level returned to normal only yesterday evening, but rose again in the middle of last night, as severe rain fell across the province.

The new rainfall raised the water levels in local canals, flooding some 30 households to 40-50 centimetres deep. Villagers were wading through knee-high water to travel, as vehicles could still not pass through the area.
