CHIANG MAI, 20 March 2015 – “Voluntary Bike Patrols” teams have been officially in action around Chiang Mai Province to ensure safety of foreign tourists who are making holidays in the province.

The new effort in maintaining security for tourists is initiated by the Chiang Mai Provincial Police and held with cooperation from twenty-seven foreigners of various nationalities who have lived in Thailand for a long time and usually serve as voluntary translators at police stations in the city.

These volunteers have already been trained in basic laws, cycling rules as well as ways to address tourists while on duty.

The patrol teams work every evening from 5.00-9.00 p.m. They will ride their bicycles through the main tourist attractions in the province such as Tha Phae Gate, Chiang Mai Night Bazaar, Wat Chedi Luang and Wat Phra Sing, in order to watch out for crimes and accidents and keep foreign tourists confident in their safety while they are in the province.
