BANGKOK, Thailand – UNESCO has launched a permanent interactive ocean education exhibition at the Bangkok Children’s Discovery Museum in Chatuchak, using immersive digital technology to promote ocean literacy and sustainable marine practices among children and youth. The project is led by the UNESCO Regional Office in Bangkok in cooperation with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration.
The exhibition was introduced to coincide with Thailand’s National Children’s Day and forms part of UNESCO’s regional program on sustaining healthy relationships with oceans in Southeast Asia through education for sustainable development. The initiative receives support from Fast Retailing Co., Ltd., the parent company of UNIQLO.
Featuring augmented reality and virtual reality experiences, the exhibition allows visitors to explore ocean ecosystems, learn about marine biodiversity, and better understand how human activity affects the marine environment. The interactive format helps engage learners of all ages and offers educational value for families and the wider community.
The exhibition draws on lessons from the Ranong Biosphere Reserve, where community-based conservation and nature-based learning have shown how education can support long-term environmental care. These insights have been adapted into interactive resources to raise awareness of ocean issues across the region.
The exhibition also supports UNESCO’s ongoing work to advance education for sustainable development and encourage young people to play an active role in protecting marine ecosystems and building a more sustainable future. (NNT)
