UN Women appreciates Thailand’s women rights promotion efforts

BANGKOK, 9 August 2012  – The UN Women has appreciated Thailand’s efforts in promotion equal rights for women. 

PM’s Office Minister Nalini Thawisin, on Wednesday, officially welcomed Mr. Ramanathan Balakrishnan, Deputy Resident Representative of the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), during his visit to discuss the collaboration on the development of Thailand’s National Development Fund for Women.

Mrs. Nalinee informed Mr. Balakrishnan that the newly-set Fund is one of the government’s key policies to empower Thai women and has received strong support from various private organizations.

Mr. Balakrishnan praised the government’s efforts while stating that the Fund is unprecedented in any country, while pledging the UN Women’s support to the Thai government in all possible ways.

He went on to say that the UN Women has planned the Development Agenda, which will specifically focus on women and invite leading women from within the Asia-Pacific region to exchange ideas at an international seminar, scheduled to be hosted in Bangkok later this year.

The PM’s Office Minister has assigned the National Development Fund for Women Committee to coordinate with the UN Women in all issues from now.
