BANGKOK – The Ministry of Transport has assigned railway officials to better manage traffic at railway crossings in a bid to prevent accidents as a large number of holidaymakers are embarking on their journeys.

Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith reported that people have already begun traveling back to their hometowns to celebrate the Songkran Festival since the past weekend. Therefore, he called on all related agencies to ensure convenience for all commuters and study past mistakes in order to improve traffic management this year, especially on April 12 and 13 when the roads are expected to be most congested.

In addition, Mr Arkhom has instructed the State Railway of Thailand to seek cooperation from its officials in each area in paying special attention to motorists crossing railway tracks as many accidents occurred in the past.
