
BANGKOK, Thailand – The Department of Highways has taken urgent action to address the abandoned construction contract on Highway No. 415 (Phang Nga–Ban Ta Khun), prioritizing safety and minimizing public impact.
Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn has assigned Deputy Permanent Secretary for Transport Jirapong Theppitak to visit Surat Thani Province to monitor progress in resolving issues with Sections 1 and 2 of the Highway No. 415 project.
During the inspection, the Deputy Permanent Secretary confirmed that contractor abandonment and contract termination had disrupted the project, impacting travel and public safety. The visit focused on gathering facts, addressing local concerns, and establishing action plans. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to expediting the project in accordance with the law while prioritizing public safety.
Authorities directed the Department of Highways and relevant agencies to implement short-term measures to facilitate traffic and allow work to continue. The Department’s construction center will first conduct remedial work, followed by budget allocation for long-term solutions. Emphasis was placed on safety measures, including additional lighting, warning signage, safety equipment, and surface improvements, to ensure safe and convenient travel while minimizing public impact.
