CHIANG MAI, Thailand – The long weekend has seen a surge of tourists heading to Chiang Mai to experience the region’s cool winter weather, with many pitching tents overnight on the mountains.

At Doi Pui, part of Doi Suthep-Pui National Park and the closest highland area to the city, visitors woke to temperatures of 17°C on Sunday morning. Thick fog blanketed the mountaintop, obscuring views of Chiang Mai city, but creating a mystical winter atmosphere. Many tourists chose to camp overnight, enjoying stargazing and panoramic city lights from above.

Meanwhile, at Doi Pha Hom Pok National Park in Fang District, camping areas at Mon Son were bustling with tourists eager to experience the crisp air. Temperatures here dropped to 11°C, and early risers were treated to fresh mountain air and vast seas of morning clouds. Couples and families alike paused to take photographs and savor the natural scenery.

Tourism authorities note that temperatures across northern Thailand are expected to continue falling, making the highlands of Chiang Mai an increasingly popular destination for travelers seeking cold-weather experiences. The combination of cool air, foggy landscapes, and mountain vistas ensures that these scenic spots remain a must-visit for tourists during the winter season. (TNA)
