BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand’s Public Relations Department (PRD) and the BBC have agreed to enhance media cooperation, starting with a pilot project to broadcast BBC content on Thai radio.
A Thai delegation, led by PRD Director-General Sudruetai Lertkasem, visited the BBC headquarters in London on June 26th. The group met with senior executives, including Jon Zilkha, CEO of BBC News World Service, and Khalid Abdalla, Head of Business Development for the Asia-Pacific region.
The two organizations agreed to a pilot project where the BBC will provide English-language news and programs for broadcast on the PRD’s radio service. The BBC will also offer training opportunities for PRD personnel at its facilities in the Asia-Pacific region. The cooperation is expected to be implemented within this year.
During the visit, the Thai delegation toured the BBC’s advanced media technology lab and its large, cross-platform newsroom. The PRD also invited the BBC World Service to participate in a media showcase at the upcoming AIBD General Conference, which will be held in Phuket this August.
Director-General Sudruetai said the agreement is a major step in international media cooperation. She confirmed the plan to air BBC content on Radio Thailand World Service FM 88.0 MHz soon, with a long-term vision to expand the partnership to television and other platforms. (NNT)
