BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand’s Cabinet has approved a USD1.23 billion bid to host Formula One races from 2028 to 2032 on a 5.7-kilometer street circuit in Bangkok’s Chatuchak area. Each event will span three days—practice, qualifying, and race day.
Tourism & Sports Minister Sorawong Thienthong said the races will be held with involvement from key agencies including TCEB, the Sports Authority of Thailand, and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration. The project is expected to boost tourism, create jobs, attract investment, and elevate Thailand’s global image.
The Thai government aims to make it a “sustainable” event, aimed at being environmentally friendly and encouraging investment in green technology alongside motorsport.
With projected annual returns of around USD570 million, Minister Sorawong expressed confidence that the event could break even within its first year. F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali is reportedly supportive of Thailand’s inclusion in the official racing calendar. (PRD)
