BANGKOK, Thailand – Thai military official Maj. Gen. Wanchana Sawasdee said Saturday that Cambodia’s deployment of long-range PHL-03 rockets near the Thai border is a direct threat to national security, following reports that the artillery – with a range of up to 130 kilometers – could target strategic Thai military and civilian sites.
He affirmed that Thailand’s use of “deep-strike” air operations was appropriate and necessary in response, stating, “We have not overreacted. Our actions are justified given Cambodia’s troop buildup and attacks on Thai civilians, hospitals, schools, and fuel stations.”
Images of the Cambodian rocket movements have raised alarms, prompting Thai forces to remain on high alert. The general emphasized that Thailand’s response has focused solely on military targets with precision strikes, aimed at minimizing casualties and de-escalating the situation as quickly as possible.
