BANGKOK – Thailand has been hosting the Sustainable Energy & Technology Asia (SETA) 2016, where it vowed to reduce carbon emission by 35% in 20 years.

Deputy Prime Minister ACM Prajin Juntong, who presided over the opening ceremony, said the Thai government is devising a plan to provide long-term energy security in the Kingdom.

Energy sustainability will be promoted via efficient production and distribution processes. Various types of fuel will also be sourced to keep energy prices at reasonable levels and lower the impact on the environment.

The government will promote the use of alternative energy rigorously in order to cut carbon emissions by 35% over the next 20 years.

The hosting of SETA 2016 by Thailand has allowed other nations in Asia to evaluate the country’s preparedness in terms of technology and human resources to become a regional hub for sustainable energy knowledge and development.

The event is divided into two areas, the academic and exhibition zones. It is being held at BITEC Bang Na from now until Friday.
