
BANGKOK, Thailand – The Earthquake Observation Division of the Thai Meteorological Department reported a magnitude 7.5 earthquake near Flores Island, Indonesia, at 4:58 a.m. on August 15, 2026.
The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers, about 3,373 kilometers from Thailand. Shaking near the epicenter was estimated to reach a maximum intensity of X on the Modified Mercalli Intensity Scale. At this level, people may experience violent shaking, and many buildings or structures could sustain severe damage or collapse. Several aftershocks were reported. Thai authorities assured the public that the earthquake does not meet the criteria for a domestic alert via the national Cell Broadcast system, and reiterated that Thailand remains unaffected by the incident.
